ICA-Belgium is getting some new, youthful energy! We welcome our new volunteer, Joanna van Gent, who will be helping us with social media for 3 months. Here is a bit about her in her own words: "Hello everybody! My name is Joanna. I am 25 years old and I just graduated in European Studies. I love to work internationally and help other people with my expertise/skills. My hobbies: anything creative (drawing, writing, painting, you name it), meeting friends, dancing, and being in nature (for a walk for example). Colours have always fascinated me! I have always liked colours and that interest grew even more when I learnt a bit about the significance and the background of colours. What also contributed to my colour interest is that my mother (none less than Anna Maria Nyk) has always explained about colours. So, as long as I can remember, colours are essential to my life! This summer, I help ICA-Belgium with social media, especially for the upcoming Workshop Colour Forecast Research. It is interesting and valuable to help ICA-Belgium!" Join us on the 29th of June at 11h in Villa Empain in Brussels for ICA-Belgium's Walk & Talk / Meet & Learn event for members. We will visit the exhibition Josef and Anni Albers: Iconic Couple of Modernism, the first exhibition dedicated to their work in Belgium.   The Venue The exhibition is held at Villa Empain - Fondation Boghossian, a masterpiece of Brussels Art Deco architecture, built at the beginning of the 1930s by Swiss/Belgian architect Michel Polak.   Share Each participant is invited to share about one of Josef's or Anni's works, or a related story, or tell about an impression their work and ideas had left. Her studio, Lymesmith, reflects her cross-disciplinary interests, and position outside of traditional gallery-based art making. Sonia will talk about her practice in colour design and site-specific artworks for the built environment: With a Painter’s Eye - Place-Based Colour Design for Architecture, a case for colour complexity and meaning in the built environment. Lymesmith employs colour to enhance connection to place, to amplify or camouflage built form, to signify cultural and historical connections, to reinforce way-finding strategies, to create new identities and regenerate places in transition. Her reconstructions of ancient sculptures were seen all around the world and are at present on view in the exhibition Antiquity in Colour, at the Gallo-Roman Museum in Tongeren, Belgium. Stephen Westland spoke about Colour Nowcasting: AI and Sustainability, exploring colour trends in the context of the fashion and textile industry, and the possibility of using AI to predict what colours are trending now - so-called colour nowcasting.
