Eredoctoraten UvA voor Liesbet Geris, Steve McQueen en Bianca Stigter! 🎓 De Universiteit van Amsterdam kent eredoctoraten toe aan Virtual Human Twin-onderzoeker Liesbet Geris, filmmaker/beeldend kunstenaar Steve McQueen en historicus/schrijver/filmmaker Bianca Stigter. "Ze zijn ieder op eigen wijze een inspiratie voor velen. Wat ze met elkaar gemeen hebben is dat de maatschappelijke impact van hun werk buitengewoon groot is," schetst UvA-rector magnificus Peter-Paul Verbeek. "Ook de wetenschappelijke betekenis van hun werk, voor respectievelijk de geneeskunde/computational science en de cultuur- en mediawetenschappen, is van grote waarde. Ik ben dan ook trots dat we Geris, McQueen en Stigter straks eredoctoren van de UvA mogen noemen." Geris ontvangt het eredoctoraat voor haar baanbrekende, wetenschappelijke werk op het terrein van in-silico medicine en de Virtual Human Twin, en integratie daarvan in klinische toepassingen. McQueen en Stigter krijgen een eredoctoraat vanwege de grote maatschappelijke en historische waarde van hun werk, met name van hun documentaire ‘De Bezette Stad’. I was honored to receive the International Outstanding Young Researcher in Freeform and Additive Manufacturing Award (junior FAME award) at this year's SFF symposium. It marks a transition in my now 14 year old career from being in the lab myself, to enabling other, even younger researchers to perform exciting research in the field of Additive Manufacturing. I owe a lot of gratitude to the people that have been instrumental throughout my career so far. Starting with Jan Van Humbeeck and Jean-Pierre Kruth at the KU Leuven, Wayne King and Manyalibo Matthews at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and now Brecht Van Hooreweder back at the KU Leuven Additive Manufacturing Institute, I could not have reached this point without their support! Congratulations also to professor Denis Cormier for receiving the FAME Award for his outstanding research in the field of EB-PBF, and metal droplet deposition AM. On to the next 14 years and beyond!

KU Leuven en Hogeschool VIVES lanceren mechatronica onderzoekslab: Beiden werken samen aan een Mechatronica onderzoeksteam gericht op digitale transformatie naar duurzaam productontwerp om maakbedrijven te ondersteunen en talent te ontwikkelen. De Vlaamse Regering ondersteunt dit initiatief met 1,69 miljoen euro.

We’re thrilled to announce that Siemens Digital Industries Software, in collaboration with KU Leuven and KU Leuven Mecha(tro)nic System Dynamics (LMSD), has launched the Digital Twin for Smart and Sustainable Products Chair in honor of KU Leuven’s 600th anniversary in 2025. LMSD’s collaboration with Siemens goes back more than four decades. This collaboration has enhanced our academic programs and many projects and benefited us, particularly at the PhD and master’s levels. What happens now? The Siemens 1425 Chair fosters research in “Digital Twin for Smart and Sustainable Products” and starts a new chapter in our extensive and productive relationship with Siemens. This chair shows our shared dedication to pushing the boundaries of technology and education. Big emotions and achievement last week, winning the public and jury's 1st prize at the Falling Walls Lab competition Leuven!
