🖥️ Internet Archive has launched an MTV news repository of nearly 480,000 articles! 🖥️ When mtvnews.com was disabled hundreds and thousands of articles about music and pop culture were removed from the internet. So, the the not-for-profit Internet Archive assembled a searchable index of 479,020 of MTV News web pages to keep this piece of cultural history alive. The new collection ensures that much of MTV News’ articles remain accessible in some form, including MTV News’ well-known “Mixtape Mondays” 🎧 When asked about their work, Internet Archive said: 'Without such artifacts, civilization has no memory and no mechanism to learn from its successes and failures. Our culture now produces more and more artifacts in digital form. The Archive’s mission is to help preserve those artifacts and create an Internet library for researchers, historians and scholars.' - and we couldn't agree more!  Read the whole news story here - https://lnkd.in/dyWsMwH2   #Archives #MusicArchives #Preservation

Our #archiving experts in Wellington, New Zealand celebrated a literal milestone recently, as the MWA Spinner T (Sepmag) replay machine they use for transferring 16mm and 35mm audio film clocked its 2,000th kilometre of played footage - enough film to stretch the entire length of New Zealand and quarter of the way back again! That's about 35-40% of the total sepmag film processed so far by the Wellington team.

Today we are celebrating - very belatedly but wholeheartedly! - our Most Valuable Colleague for February, Bruno Manunza. As an AV hardware and maintenance engineer in our Brussels facility, Bruno plays an essential role in ensuring our legacy equipment is kept in full working order. In recent weeks he has been central to bringing further equipment online to allow us to increase capacity in Brussels, while also providing a wide range of equipment for off-site projects around the world. Bruno, it's hugely appreciated how you are willing to work on machines outside your comfort zone and to provide support to maintenance teams both at our global facilities and at client production sites. Thank you for all that you do!

Don't let your digital archive become a silent movie! 🎥💥 Digitization is a great tool for preserving analogue formats, but it’s only the first step. #DigitalPreservation goes beyond simply converting files. Complacency is the real villain! Having the mindset of "it’s saved digitally so it’s safe” puts your assets at risk. We’re loving this insightful piece from The Hollywood Reporter, featuring our industry colleagues, which highlights the fragility of archives and the chilling possibility that today’s master files could vanish forever, echoing the fate of lost silent films. A stark reminder of the importance of a thought-out preservation strategy and why digitization is just the start of the archival process. Read the full story: https://ow.ly/U0iG50R28BF

Happy #WorldStorytellingDay 📖 Today, we celebrate the power of stories that connect us across cultures and races. But with a vast amount of legacy-format content at risk of degradation, the technology needed to play those formats fast disappearing, and a proliferation of new content putting pressure on archives, some stories risk being lost forever. At Memnon, we believe in preserving these irreplaceable narratives. That's why we've dedicated the past two decades to safeguarding cultural heritage. We've digitized over 4 million hours of content and continue to migrate an impressive 17,000 hours every month. Let's use this day as a call to action for the entire industry. Join us in ensuring the stories that define who we are don't fade away 🌎💬
