METALogic wants to be THE corrosion partner of its customers. We want to accompany our customers in all the decisive stages of an installation’s lifetime to prolong its safe service life. This means: • During design and fabrication: advice for materials and coating selection, corrosion testing, advice with regard to permanent installation of monitoring sensors, coating and other material tests, • In service: monitoring of integrity, corrosion- and coating monitoring, electrochemical testing, risk-based inspection (RBI) • At failure: failure analysis, study and advice Within its team of corrosion and material experts, METALogic possesses an ideal combination of industrial and academic knowledge especially in corrosion monitoring, corrosion and coating testing, failure analyses and non-intrusive inspection techniques. We are pleased to present the perspectives of Maintenance manager EBSM Joris Moeremans and Head engineer technical inspections Mike Suy on the collaboration between METALogic, part of TÜV AUSTRIA Belgium, and INEOS Styrolution Belgium NV. This interview focuses on how a thorough damage mechanism review (DMR) and the use of METALogic's CorLife™ software form a strong basis for Risk Based Inspections (RBI). This partnership has been crucial in enhancing safety and efficiency at Ineos Styrolution’s Zandvliet site. Since 2020, CorLife™ has facilitated more than 100 RBI inspections annually. This ongoing process allows for proactive maintenance and inspection planning. The CorLife™ software has been effectively adapted to meet Ineos’s specific standards and requirements. We look forward to further advancements and continued partnership, reflecting our shared commitment to safety and sustainability in operations. Residual (or internal) stresses are present in all the mechanical #components, and are mainly caused by the past “history” of the #material: for example, #fabrication or machining process, #welding, heat treatment and non-uniform #heating or #cooling. These stresses naturally add to the ones induced by applied loads, and can strongly reduce the fatigue life of our components. In particular, this problem is crucial for some typical applications: ▪ Aerospace ▪ Automotive ▪ Energy ▪ Oil & Gas It’s therefore very important to quantify the level of residual stresses. For this reason, there are several measuring techniques: these different approaches mainly use mechanical or diffractive methods, and can be divided in non-destructive, semi/micro-destructive or totally destructive. The laboratory of SINT Technology s.r.l. has a wide experience in residual stress analysis, and is able to make tests by the following methods: ▪ Hole-drilling (semi/micro-destructive) ▪ Ring-coring (semi-destructive) ▪ X-ray diffraction (non-destructive) ▪ Sectioning, slitting and layering (destructive) For the hole-drilling technique, SINT Technology s.r.l. is an ISO/IEC #17025 accredited test #lab according to the ASTM #E837 standard.
