Day 1 of UK #spacecommexpo2024 in #farnborough is a wrap. It’s been a day full of insights from across the #space #valuechain – we have compiled a few of the most relevant ones for you below: ⚗ R&D – In the future, electric and nuclear fusion propulsion will enable the efficiency & power needed to cover the vast distances in space (Richard Dinan – Pulsar Fusion) 🚀 Launch – Point to point transportation via space can happen, if key logistical questions are addressed (Rob Long – Space Florida) ⚙ Operations – Technical capabilities linked to SSA exist and are very useful, but straightforward flow of information to key decision makers is critical and needs to be considered (Ed Betar – Australian Space Agency) 🌍 Applications – “Every company is a space company”, but space technologies need to be unlocked for a range of applications and barriers to uptake removed (Lucy Edge – Satellite Applications Catapult; Craig Brown – UK Space Agency) 👩🏫 Ecosystem & enablers – Transferable skills & STEM expertise are needed across the sector (Debbie Strang - SaxaVord Spaceport UK; Kata Escott CB – Airbus Defence and Space) At SpaceTec Partners, we have expertise across these topics and more, from shaping future-proof R&D programmes to assessing launch & space infrastructure businesses through implementing downstream service demonstrators and developing space sector skills strategies. 🚑 #Space4Aid ⛑ Some of our recent client work has supported projects that showcase the potential of #satellite applications 🛰, particularly #EarthObservation and #satellitenavigation for humanitarian aid. 🚜 For example, as part of some work done for EUSPA - EU Agency for the Space Programme’s #EUSPace4Ukraine initiative we showed how EU innovators use free and #openaccess #Copernicus data to give insights into agricultural activities, including delineation of field boundaries and #cropclassification anywhere in the world. In regions of war and crises such as #Ukraine 💙 💛, these insights help to inform #yieldforecasts, anticipate food shortages, and direct humanitarian aid to relevant locations. 🗺  Together with EUSPA we also supported Red Cross Ukraine by working with innovators to provide up-to-date, accurate Copernicus imagery that can be used for mission planning under conditions of destroyed infrastructure or natural disasters. In addition, a demonstrator day provided training on how to use #Galileo enabled drones to swiftly and precisely navigate challenging terrains 🏔 or damaged buildings 🏢 during Search & Rescue missions, ensuring that help reaches those in distress as fast as possible. 💻 More generically, the 6th #CASSINI #Hackathon showcased the incredible potential of EU space technology in the realm of humanitarian aid.
