For our newest trainees, this was their first taste of the Ormit Talent spirit: an ideal mix of adventure, connection, and conquering fears. (Afraid of heights? A wombat in Silicon Valley. It happened a couple of times. Being invited to a meeting where I understood as much as an Australian wombat attending a Silicon Valley start-up's strategy session. In other words, not much. It’s not that I lacked motivation or wasn’t caffeinated enough. It was more about what on Earth was being discussed there. And the amount of “premium” words that were flying around. Instead of admitting I understood sh*t, I sat there pretending to be fully on board. As fakely engaged as the carpet trader in your personal life. Holding strong and hoping they wouldn’t find out. Turns out, I’m not the only one. The strategy of “pretend until you comprehend” is far more common than we’d like to admit. Especially when you’re up against a wall of corporate buzzwords. Think of the stereotypical strategy consultants or growth marketeers—you know exactly what I mean. But it gets worse: I’ve probably been guilty of dropping my fair share of Ormit Talent Belgium lingo too. Words like trainees, actionable deliverables, midway reviews, bilas, decks, touch bases, hard stops, soft landings… So if you ever feel lost in the middle of one of my sentences, just say the word. I'll get it. 😉 And I’ll make sure to pass the message along to my colleagues Alicia Thomas Sofie Van Waeyenberge , Anneleen Vanlommel, Elke Carlier, Koen De Boodt and Sébastien Nève de Mévergnies —pinky swear.
