For one of our clients we’re building an enterprise SaaS product with complex procedural workflows in a highly regulated domain. The business logic contains a ton of approvals, revisions, sign-offs and other role-based features that all impact each other. In order to keep this manageable, we opted for XState as a state manager. XState has proven to be the perfect solution to set up and manage core workflows while also assisting us in setting up proper logging and traceability. What’s your experience with state machines? In order to maintain security across the REST APIs we build, we use a “divide and conquer” approach. We break down request handling into five sequential steps for nearly all endpoints: 1. Input validation 2. Authentication 3. Authorization 4. Execution 5. Output sanitization To efficiently ensure security, we examine each of these steps individually and leverage existing frameworks like NestJS, Django and Symfony. The core setup is reviewed annually for each product in our portfolio during our security training sessions to discuss changes and approaches across teams, products, and languages. Additionally, we conduct a quarterly review of each system using a comprehensive security checklist. Security has become a cornerstone in our product development operations. We’re thrilled to announce our new cooperation with QFacts. Together with the QFacts team, we’re setting out on a journey to build a next-gen Quality Management System (QMS) tailored to the needs of the pharmaceutical industry. We’ll be building a core SaaS product to streamline process workflows, complemented by genAI services to reduce manual workloads, all while safeguarding and enforcing compliance rules. The idea for QFacts came from the founding team of Farma Consulting & Partners, a reputable consulting firm with years of deep expertise into this subject matter. Powering up digital products with genAI services can create tremendous user value. However, three key concepts need to be taken into account when integrating AI -and in particular Large Language Models (LLMs): 1. Compliance: ensuring compliance with GDPR and the EU AI Act to protect end-users 2. Security: prompt injection and insecure output handling. Thorough testing as well as input and output validation can help prevent these. 3. Model selection: careful selection of the LLM is imperative to ensure the outputs of the LLMs are unbiased and suit the applications needs. When building user interfaces for B2B SaaS products, we typically start with creating responsive web applications, often times followed with a need to build a mobile app experience as well. For the sake of efficiency, we try to hold on to a single codebase across web and mobile applications. Lately we have been using Capacitor (by Ionic) to easily turn existing web applications into native mobile apps for iOS and Android. Capacitor provides all the main native application functionality while remaining highly time-effective for setup and maintenance. Our evaluation so far is very positive!
