From 19 to 27 October, the exhibition “Detention Houses in Restorative Cities” will be held, exploring the various elements of a Restorative City. The exhibition examines the connection between (in)justice and detention houses through photographs and presents inspiring examples of small-scale detention facilities from across Europe. 📅 October 19 to 27 ⏰ Every day from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM 📍 Doorpakkers; Kanaaldijk-Zuid 11A, 5611 VA Eindhoven 🎉 The exhibition will be opened on Monday, October 21, at 4:00 PM. We will also have a Restorative City walk organized over five days. On Tuesday, 22 October, the walk will be held in English. ✨ Symposium Recap: "Gerechtigkeit und Wiedergutmachung" (Justice and Restoration) ✨ In conjunction with the 10-year anniversary of Seehaus e.V.'s work in victim support 🎉, a high-profile symposium was held in Stuttgart, organized by a coalition of over 20 organisations and institutions specialising in victim support, reintegration support services, and restorative justice. The event brought together over 100 experts from Germany 🇩🇪, Austria 🇦🇹, Belgium 🇧🇪, Switzerland 🇨🇭 and the Netherlands 🇳🇱 and put forward seven key proposals to be discussed in justice, academia, and civil society in the coming months, aiming for swift implementation 📝. 🗣️ Noa Tamar Shoshan (RESCALED EU Office) and Tamara Höfer (RESCALED member Richtungswechsel - AT) participated in dynamic panels, also exploring the benefits of small-scale detention houses for restorative justice measures and relational security. 🌟 A highlight was the Open Door Day at the Seehaus detention facility, where the local community came together on Sunday, creating a welcoming space for people of all ages and backgrounds to connect 🤝. 📢 Milestone Achievement in Belgian Penal Policy! 🎉 Vzw De Huizen, NGO and Belgian RESCALED Office, is thrilled to announce that small-scale, community-integrated detention houses are now officially embedded in Belgian law! This marks a significant step toward a more meaningful and humane approach to detention in Belgium. In our latest blog post, Bauke De Bie dives deeper into the role VZW De Huizen played in this achievement, the legal foundation that has been established, and the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. While this is a big step forward, continued investment is essential to implement detention houses for various target groups, enhance staff recruitment and training, and raise public awareness.
