We’re thrilled to see how much the Ohio community enjoys our LR12500-1 crane! It’s been amazing watching students get involved, from creatively renaming the crane to building their own mini LEGO version - what a fantastic tribute! 🙌 Seeing our crane become a part of the local spirit and sparking joy and curiosity is exactly why we love what we do. Here's to the excitement and wonder that projects like these bring, and to our LR12500-1 looking right at home in Ohio! ✨ #Sarens #LR12500 #CommunitySpirit #EngineeringForAll #BigMachinesBigHearts
She's here! Today, James Evers and our #OhioOne team celebrated the students of Johnstown-Monroe Local Schools for the naming of Ms. Armstrong, one of the largest cranes in the world. 🏗️ There is no mistaking her on the Intel campus. Standing taller than two #StatueofLiberty, this impressive machine can lift 5.5 million pounds and her counterweights are massive.🗽🏋🏾♀️When the time comes, this tower of power will pick up the trusses and place them on the top of the fab. A job that BIG requires a BIG crane! Since she can be seen from miles away, the students put special care into selecting a name that would have meaning to Ohioans. That's why Ms. Armstrong is a homonym with four meanings: 💪🏾POWERFUL: The name Armstrong means "strong fighter” and is associated with strength and resilience. This crane literally has a strong arm. 🧮 MATH: Armstrong numbers are used to teach basic coding and this was a way to connect the love of Math to the crane's name. {Fun fact} An Armstrong number is a number that equals the sum of its digits, each raised to a power. 🚀OHIO HISTORY: The #buckeyestate is birthplace of aviation with many firsts from the Wright Brothers and Jerrie Mock's solo flight. And we’ve had 24 astronauts including John Glenn and Neil Armstrong, who was the first person to set foot on the Moon. 👩🏽🚀🌖Girls in STEM & Women on the Moon: When naming this crane, the students added “Ms.” as a way to shine a light on the future of women in space and in #STEM careers. Through the #Artemis program, we will see the first woman and first person of color walk on the surface of the Moon. And Ohio will have an important role in this too because as #NASA says, “the road to the moon, goes through Ohio.” As a gesture of our gratitude, Intel engineer Hillary Jacobs organized a team to build a mini Ms. Armstrong from nearly 3,000 #LEGOs so the students can use it to learn about the mechanics of a crane. After the assembly, we hosted an all-day #STEAM experience with the racing simulator (custom built by Toby Starr), circuits, geology kits, VR and more. And there was pizza. 🍕 Johnstown students - from our hearts to yours, thank you for naming the crane. 💙 🫶🏾#weareIntel #SiliconHeartland
