In honour of #OAWeek24, we’re excited to share that our Action Plan for #DiamondOA has been translated into 13 languages and endorsed by over 160 organizations, reaching more of our community than ever. Diamond Open Access is a model where journals and platforms are free for both authors and readers, promoting equity and bibliodiversity. Despite its strengths, it faces challenges in technical capacity, management, visibility, and sustainability. Our Action Plan aims to address these by focusing on efficiency, quality standards, capacity building, and sustainability. https://bit.ly/3QOPZ8j 🔗 Read more about our Action Plan #OpenAccess #DiamondOA

🚀 New publication on #OpenScience and #ResearchAssessment! I’m happy to announce the publication of a new survey report on open science and research assessment by Science Europe. It shows how research funding and performing organisations in Europe are advancing open science and contributing to a more open research culture. Here are some key findings: ✅ Open science is a strategic priority. Nearly all responding organisations have adopted a strategic approach to open science, often within a robust framework that spans across regional, national, and international levels. ✅ Open science goes beyond just #OpenAccess. While the survey results highlight an emphasis on open access to research publications and data, they also reveal that responding organisations are incorporating emerging open science elements into their strategies. ✅ Open science is integrated into all aspects of assessment processes. Yet, distinct approaches are taken on aspects such as data collection and support provision. ✅ Expanding monitoring mechanisms and evidence-gathering activities will become an area for further exploration as open science policies become more widespread and ambitious. 🗒 You can check out the full survey report and slide deck here: https://lnkd.in/d7kMVdGp The survey results will drive mutual learning and policy alignment among Science Europe members through upcoming workshops in early 2025, and they will also help shape Science Europe’s position in key policy discussions. The ultimate goal of this initiative is to formulate strategic recommendations on how research funding and performing organisations can advance open science. A big thank you to my colleague James Morris for co-leading this initiative, and to the speakers at today’s launch webinar: Lidia Borrell-Damian (Science Europe), Sean Sapcariu (FNR), Jolanta Sinkuniene (LMT), and Agnes Ponsati (CSIC).

📢 Now online, the conclusions of our Reciprocity Day at the Science Summit 2024 during the 79th #UNGA. Joining forces with Norges forskningsråd to bring together experts from around the globe, we explored the critical importance of freedom to carry out research, equitable access to scientific information and research infrastructures, while considering science as a public good. The dialogue emphasised that co-creation of a human-centred, peaceful future is essential to meeting global challenges and achieving the #SustainableDevelopmentGoals. This requires rethinking the way we collaborate internationally, ensuring academic freedom, equity, and inclusion. What are the key takeaways from the discussion? 🔑 Place people and their diverse backgrounds at the heart of equitable partnerships, built on trust, dignity, and respect. 🔑 Embrace open science to ensure equitable access to scientific knowledge and information, and equitable access to research infrastructures, crucial for meaningful collaboration 🔑Prioritise scientific collaboration across borders as part of a country's strategic development. 🔑 Train researchers in enhanced inclusive collaboration methods, promoting South-South and North-South collaborations. 🔑 Facilitate the logistical aspects of global collaboration such as easing visa processes. 🔑Acknowledge the value of indigenous and local knowledge systems. Thanks to Mari Sundli Tveit, Declan Kirrane, Alejandro Adem, Matthias Koenig, Tolullah Oni, Claudia Romano, Jacqueline Ottmann, Dr Dorothy Ngila, Gabriela Ramos, Thandi Mgwebi, Amna Baloch, Osamu Kobayashi, Gagandeep Kang, Eduardo Ortega-Barria, pushkar sharma, Prue Williams and Francisco Javier Moreno Fuentes Download the conclusions here: bit.ly/40xAQPp

Science Europe, in collaboration with key research and innovation organisations, has signed a joint statement calling for enhanced support and recognition for the #MSCA programme. The MSCA is crucial for developing talent and advancing Europe's research capacity through mobility, training, and international collaboration. Despite its significant contributions to #EuropeanResearch and #Innovation, the programme is notably absent from Mario Draghi’s report and the Mission Letters for the proposed Executive Vice-President for People, Skills and Preparedness, and Commissioner for Startups, Research, and Innovation. Our joint statement urges the European Commission, European Parliament, and the Council of the European Union to: 💶 Increase the MSCA budget 🧪 Preserve its bottom-up research approach We strongly believe that supporting MSCA’s to achieve its full potential is key to maintaining Europe's competitiveness and bolstering the capabilities of world-class research. 🔗 Read the full statement: https://lnkd.in/ewwbdzzs Signatories include: Science Europe, Aurora Universities , CESAER, Coimbra Group, The European Plant Science Organisation (EPSO), EuroTech Universities Alliance, EU-LIFE, The Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities, Initiative for Science in Europe, League of European Research Universities (LERU), Marie Curie Alumni Association, and YERUN - Young European Research Universities.
