Clinical #trial research in oncology relies heavily on #clinical documentation within the electronic medical record (EMR) to ascertain patient eligibility. 🩺 The two pivotal criteria in determining patient eligibility are clinical cancer stage and performance status. The challenge lays in the inconsistent availability of this clinical #data within the structured fields of the #EMR which hinders further data standardization, and development of #AI models. This research showcases the power of NLP and semi-supervised learning by extracting cancer staging and performance status from unstructured EMR data to complete patient records, achieving over 97% accuracy. 💡Real-world data (RWD) have been increasingly used for #regulatory decision-making, but their inconsistent use across healthcare institutions calls for solutions. The #JSCDM article on "Need for Data Standardization and Infrastructure of Research Data Management to Promote Using Real-world Data" explore possible solutions to standardize RWD which is through Clinical Data Interchange Standards Consortium (CDISC) standards, tools, and concepts. This study examines the availability of CDISC and other international #standards for the utilization of #RWD with concrete examples and presents the potential platform for implementation.
