#didyouknow today, October 14, is National Sports Day or スポーツの日 in Japan! 💪 Sports Day is celebrated every second Monday of the month October to promote physical and mental health & fitness – the same reason why the Sumitomo Bakelite Europe (Ghent) NV team has dedicated their efforts towards reaching the "#Sportbedrijf" label (granted by Sport Vlaanderen). 🏆 Last month, Christoph Caluwé from Sport Vlaanderen visited our Ghent office to officially hand over the "Sportbedrijf" trophy, in the presence of our cycling team captain Wim De Bock and our HR colleagues Sandra and Jeroen De Potter. 📅 In the meantime, we continue with our active agenda for fiscal year 2024, with sportive team activities (supported by our Sports Ambassadors) as well as events related to 100 Year Compounding at our Ghent site. 🏭 100 years of compounding! In fiscal year 2024, we celebrate 100 years of #thermoset #compounding activities at our Ghent plant with an active and sportive agenda. We've already kicked off the fiscal year in April with: 🚲 our renewed goal to reach 100 000 km of cycling commute, ⚽ the Tifogame European Championship football prediction competition, ⛰ and our yearly sportive weekend in the mountains. We are looking forward to what the rest of the year will bring us: from a "jeu de boules", over the yearly staff party, to a "start to ride" event!

🌱 Ambition & cooperation for #sustainability 🖋 Those were the key words in the back of our minds when we signed the letter of intent for the study towards a "sustainable #energy hub" at the Vynckier site in Ghent (Stad Gent). 🤝 This study precedes a possible #collaboration between Sumitomo Bakelite Europe (Ghent) NV, Anglo Belgian Corporation, Revive and Kelvin Solutions with the goal of optimizing the energy flows and efficiency of all involved parties at the historical Vynckier site, where our plant is located. #technologiehoofdstad

👑 King of the Mountain! Last month, Sumitomo Bakelite Europe (Ghent) NV organized again its yearly sportive weekend. ⛰️ This year we went to the French Vosges mountains, where we joined 3000 hikers & bikers for Golazo Group's "Climbing for Life" event, conquering famous cols such as the "Ballon d'Alsace" or "la Planche des Belles Filles". ❤️ As with every other edition of "Climbing for Life", the sportive happening is used to raise funds for charity. This year's focus was on #diabetes (Diabetes Liga), which affects every 1 out of 10 Belgians. More than 70 000 EUR was raised thanks to "Climbing for Life". 💪 Keep moving, stay #healthy!

🏆 Champions! ⚽ Yesterday, we celebrated the winners of our TIFOGAME (Tifogroup) prediction game, linked to the Men's European Football Championship. The Top 3 took away 🎈 a hot air balloon trip; 🍖 a charcoal barbecue; or 🥐 a breakfast at home. 5 other colleagues were rewarded with the official adidas championship ball. 🍹 And of course, our CEO Pieter Vanderstraeten kept true to his promise of paying a round to all colleagues who finished higher in the ranking than himself!

🥐 On July 10, before the main Summer holidays, we surprised our sustainably commuting colleagues with a "koffiekoeken"-breakfast – to thank everyone for reaching 115 000 km of bike commute in (fiscal year) 2023. 🚲 This year, we are doubling down on our efforts for #sustainable (bike) #commute: reaching 100 000 km within (fiscal year) 2024 is part of our company goals for the collective salary bonus.

🥹 Orgullos@s! 🌱 Our Spanish colleagues from SUMITOMO BAKELITE EUROPE (BARCELONA), S.L.U. were also recently awarded with their #Sustainable #Entrepreneurship Laureate certificate. 👣 They followed in the foot steps of our sibling company in Genk, together with Voka - Kamer van Koophandel Limburg; displaying the sustainable entrepreneurship prowess of the #Flanders region (used as a best-in-class example by United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR))! ¡Vamos! 💪
