⏳Commissioner-designate grillings are just around the corner! With just one week to go before the hearing of Dan Jørgensen, Commissioner-designate for Energy and Housing, we’ve rounded up the key takeaways from his answers to the written questions addressed to him by the European Parliament. 🙌 We are happy that his answers recognise energy efficiency as a tool for: ✅ Addressing affordable housing and energy poverty  ✅ Enabling a cost-effective decarbonisation   ✅ Strengthening the resilience of Europe’s energy sector and economy 👏 Dan Jørgensen also places a strong emphasis on the energy efficiency of buildings and commits to making more financing, both public and private, available to boost the efficiency of homes – namely via the Social Climate Fund and the revision of state aid rules, but also by ensuring investments for energy efficiency in the EU Clean Energy Investment Strategy. Despite the answers failing to recognise  the role of energy efficiency in facilitating the electrification of the EU’s energy system, Dan Jørgensen shares a welcome understanding of energy efficiency as an effective means to achieving many of the EU’s goals, from competitiveness and resilience to affordable housing and lower energy prices. We hope to see this reflected also during his hearing next week! 🤝 👉 Read the full questionnaire here: https://lnkd.in/dkFmK8Tp

  • 📢 Energy efficiency facilitates electrification! 🔎 This is the main finding of a recent study published earlier this month. The study provides concrete data to showcase how energy efficiency and flexibility can help balance the EU energy system and make the transition to climate neutrality more affordable and reliable. For instance, ambitious building renovation and flexibility measures could, in 2050:   ✅ Cut almost in half the highest level of consumption (peak demand) observed in a year  ✅ Reduce energy system costs by €312 billion a year   ✅ Save €44,2 billion annually in distribution grid investments  As we move towards increased electrification, lowering Europe’s energy demand will be key to tackling current challenges such as grid congestion or high energy prices for companies and citizens.  These substantial benefits confirm that energy efficiency must be set as a core priority of the new European Commission! 👉 Read the full study here: https://lnkd.in/gch486YJ

  • Interesting new study showing how energy efficiency can facilitate the electrification of the EU energy system! 👇 Demand-side measures, including building renovations, reduce the investments needed to electrify and achieve climate neutrality, while also cutting bills for consumers. With the new European Commission expected to adopt Action Plans on Electrification and Affordable Energy Prices, this research clearly shows the benefits of putting energy efficiency first! #YourHomeOurFuture #FlatTheCurve #RenovateNow 🇪🇺

⏰ Today is the day! Our study exploring how #buildingrenovations can make climate neutrality more achievable and affordable by reducing peak demand is officially out! ⏰ Working alongside (key) stakeholders from the energy sector, our goals with this study are twofold: ⚡ Understanding the challenges brought about by peak demand in the transition towards a more renewable and highly electrified energy system. 🏗️ Exploring the ways building renovations can help us face these challenges, backed by data and scientific research. Curious to learn more? ⬇️ 🔎 Head to www.yourhomeourfuture.eu to find more info! We’ll also share more results from the study on our LinkedIn page all throughout October and November. 👀 p.s. • 🤔Did you know? Over the last five years, 77% of Europeans say they took actions to consume less energy at home by changing their habits. This is one of the many interesting results of a new Eurobarometer survey published this week.📝 ➡ The survey also finds that over half (54%) of Europeans believe that Europe should save energy wherever possible, and that the EU should encourage Member States to focus on measures to reduce energy consumption (50%) and to support households in energy poverty (53%). 🙌 These findings show that Europeans are responsive and favourable to energy efficiency and savings measures, both by acting to change their own habits and supporting EU actions in this domain, in particular for the most vulnerable. These sentiments should be reflected in the upcoming work of the new European Institutions! 🤝 Read more interesting statistics below ⬇ and read the full press release here: https://lnkd.in/e9Cp3sfG

  • The suspense is over! The Commissioners-Designate's names, portfolios and mission letters are out!     We are happy to see that energy efficiency is well reflected across different mission letters:     ✅ Energy efficiency is recognised as a solution to advance the integration of Europe's energy system and as an area in which to prioritise investments to boost Europe's clean energy infrastructure.     ✅ The Commission is tasked with further implementing the Energy Efficiency First principle and supporting the implementation of the existing legal framework for 2030.     ✅ Discussion on the new legislative architecture beyond 2030 is expected to start after the 2040 climate target is enshrined in the Climate Law.     ✅ Energy poverty and affordability are key priorities in the mission letters, with important foreseen initiatives such as the Affordable Housing Plan or the Citizen Energy Package.     Congratulations to Dan Jørgensen, @Teresa Ribera Rodríguez and all of the Commissioners-Designate for their nomination. We look forward to learning more about these initiatives during the Parliament's hearings!

💪 We've joined forces with smartEn Smart Energy Europe in a joint statement that highlights the crucial role of #EnergyEfficiency and #DemandSideFlexibility in advancing a cost-effective clean #EnergyTransition.    Together, energy efficiency and demand side flexibility can: ✅ Reduce grid congestion  ✅ Limit curtailment of renewables   ✅ Offset unnecessary investments in peak generation and large-scale storage.    We urge the new EU institutions to empower consumers and businesses to efficiently reduce their energy needs and optimise their consumption, and, consequently, unlock the above benefits. ➡Read our full joint statement here: https://lnkd.in/ewz5-Q-Q

  • 📄Following Mario Draghi’s report on the future of European competitiveness, there is no better time to share our own paper detailing how the #energyefficiency industrial ecosystem has an essential role in simultaneously supporting EU decarbonisation and competitiveness.     ⚡Energy efficiency products and services are readily available net-zero technologies that can boost European competitiveness by enabling businesses to decarbonise, decrease costs and be more resilient to supply disruptions and volatile energy prices. 💪 📢 Our key message? The energy efficiency industrial ecosystem and energy efficiency more broadly must be fully recognised and supported in the Clean Industrial Deal.    ➡ Read our paper here: https://lnkd.in/ewxC5YyT

💪 There's no better way to resume work after the summer! Today, we had the pleasure of meeting with Paula Pinho, Director for Just Transition, Consumers, Energy Security, Efficiency and Innovation at the Directorate-General for Energy.  We discussed the priorities for the new mandate, as outlined in the Commission's Political Guidelines. We namely discussed: ✔ The upcoming Clean Industrial Deal and how to ensure it leverages energy efficiency as a tool to boost European competitiveness   ✔ The role of energy efficiency in mitigating energy poverty and improving housing affordability   ✔ The implementation of the Fit for 55 package, particularly the Energy Efficiency Directive and Energy Performance of Buildings Directive  📢 Our main message: Energy savings have a key role in achieving many of the new Commission's priorities and should be recognised and promoted accordingly in its political mandate!
