About us
Our group brings together members of the European Parliament standing up for workers, the environment, human rights, gender equality and democracy. In plenary sessions, committee meetings, parliamentary delegations and trilogue negotiations with the other EU institutions, our MEPs are a voice for those who are often excluded from debate in such circles. We are represented in all of the bodies that undertake the detailed work of the European Parliament and our contributions, legislative proposals, reports and amendments always reflect our key values.

Backtracking on climate action, foreign affairs failures and an agenda of deregulation leave the Commission President with a solid F grade for her first 100 days in office. To say The Left is so far unimpressed with the President of the European Commission’s first 100 days in office would be the understatement of the year. Von der Leyen’s second mandate has been marked by an unprecedented rollback of legislation she authored in the last mandate, to the detriment of people and planet. The Left has issued the following report card for VDL’s first 100 days of her second mandate: https://lnkd.in/efrijdp3

Today, the Council of the EU will meet with an Israeli representative to discuss strengthening cooperation under the EU-Israel Association Agreement—despite Israel’s leaders facing an ICC arrest warrant and standing accused of genocide at the ICJ. This is not diplomacy. It is not even mere hypocrisy. It is complicity. While Gaza lies in ruins, its people displaced, and the West Bank endures relentless assault, European leaders choose to look the other way, treating this as a strategic game rather than a moral crisis. There can be no justice while Palestinians are denied the right to return home. There can be no peace as long as the UNRWA ban remains in place. History will not forgive the EU for maintaining business-as-usual relations with Israel while a genocide unfolds before our eyes. The EU-Israel Association Agreement must be suspended—now.

Today, the European Parliament debated the Commission’s 2025 work programme, and despite "social fairness" being described as a key focus, not a single legal measure on social policy is included. 📌 The Commission failed to consult MEPs before presenting the programme. 📌 President von der Leyen didn’t even show up to defend it in Parliament. 📌 Instead of tackling the cost-of-living crisis, the focus is on boosting big business profits under the guise of "competitiveness." Europeans are struggling with rising costs, yet this Commission—one of the most right-wing in history—is failing them. We need policies that prioritise people, not corporate profits. 📢 Join us for a crucial discussion on EU-funded state trafficking at the Tunisia-Libya border 🚨 Black migrants are being arrested, expelled, and sold at the EU’s external borders. The latest research reveals that Tunisian authorities—funded by the EU—are handing over people to Libyan militias for ransom and exploitation. At this event, we’ll expose the EU’s complicity in racialised border violence and discuss: 🔹 A ground-breaking report based on extensive investigations 🔹 First-hand testimonies from those directly affected 🔹 Insights from activists & NGOs resisting border violence

In Poland, having an abortion is a matter of life and death. Justyna Wydrzyńska is the first ever pro-choice activist convicted for helping a woman to have a safe abortion in the EU. Yet - 3 years later - Justyna Wydrzyńska will face another court with the same charges, guilty of helping a woman to have a safe abortion. The unfulfilled promises of the Polish government on women's freedom are a dangerous alarm for the EU. This fight in Poland's near-total abortion ban— and across the EU it's about a system that is failing women every single day: anti-abortion groups in public hospitals, mandatory waiting periods, psychological harm, forced counselling, doctors refusing care, and the slow destruction of the legal right to abortion. We cannot afford a war on women's bodies. We cannot allow Europe to backslide on reproductive rights—introducing new barriers, making abortion even harder, and punishing those who help. Europe must act. We must protect women's right to choose, defend human rights, and defend the brave ones who advocate for them.

📢 Competitiveness should serve people, not corporate profits. The European Commission’s new competitiveness compass is yet another roadmap disconnected from people’s reality. While millions in the EU face rising poverty, declining public investment, and deteriorating working conditions, the European Commission continues to prioritise corporate interests over social and environmental justice. 💰 A race to the bottom is not a strategy—it’s a crisis. 🔴 The Commission’s push for the MERCOSUR free trade agreement will undermine small farmers, public health, and climate commitments. The Left firmly opposes it and fights for a reset of EU trade policies based on solidarity, sustainability, and fairness. Read more 👇
