🌱🌊 Fertile Ground for Change: How Nitrogen Fertilizer Impacts Water Quality In this first article of a new series on the impact of chemical fertilizers, we cover the impact of these fertilizers on water quality and human health. Our heavy reliance on nitrogen fertilizers is not just an environmental issue—it's also a matter of environmental justice. Vulnerable, rural communities often bear the brunt of water quality degradation caused by these practices, and research shows that the smallest among rural populations are the most impacted. This is true both for the size of a community’s population and for the tiniest of humans within it. Look out for future articles where we cover new opportunities in agtech to reduce fertilizer usage and regenerative approaches that change the way we think about increasing the fertility of our soils. 💡

Regenerative has Arrived! 👀 How we know: policies, regulation, legislation, corporate commitments, and investment funds are all turning their attention to the power of regenerative agriculture. 🎯 Why: Regenerative can help build resilience, reduce risk and help enable beneficial systemic outcomes for climate, the environment, farmer well-being, healthy food, and much more. 😳 BUT! There’s an enormous financing gap preventing us from realizing this potential - an estimated $250-430 BILLION GAP that if closed could offer 13x that in new investment opportunities. 💸 CAPITAL is a critical lever to move REGENERATION Forward! 🌎 Be part of the community using CAPITAL to UNLOCK IMPACT & FINANCIAL RETURNS. We are so excited that the Regenerative Food Systems Investment Forum is only one month away! 📅 Each year, this amazing event brings together farmers, entrepreneurs, investors, and others from across the value chain to have real conversations on how we can work together and think systemically to transform our food system. We are grateful to be a part of this inspiring community and look forward to seeing you all there. 👉Join investors and solution-builders at the 2024 Regenerative Food Systems Investment (RFSI) Forum: https://lnkd.in/gPQhn2xd #4Weeks2Forum #foodsystems #farming #investment #impactinvesting #regenerativeagriculture #foodfinance #RFSIForum24

This week, our market gardener Armand is harvesting carrots from open-source, locally-produced seeds. Why? * Using seeds produced in Belgium encourages our food sovereignty. Open-source seeds can be produced by anyone. They are free to use and have not been manipulated in labs. * They have been selected on local organic farms and gardens depending on their performance. They are therefore better adapted to our terroir and climate. This ensures they’re hardy plants, more resistant to the diseases and parasites of our regions. * They offer great genetic diversity and are generally selected for their resistance, but also for their taste. We use these seeds because they foster more biodiversity, more local endorsement and more natural and nutritious food production, perfectly in line with our values... And, who knows, we might inspire you or other producers to do the same! Food change starts with the soil and the seeds 🙂🌱

Creating Investment Strategies that Embrace a Systemic Approach 🎤 Hallie Fox, The Nest Family Office 🎤 David Leon, Biome Capital Partners Check out one of this year's RFSI Forum featured Fireside Chats ➪ What sets agriculture and food apart from so many other investment opportunities is how it touches nearly every aspect of human existence. This unique interconnected nature means investing in these systems effectively beckons for a systems-based approach. This session will explore: 💡 What does this look like in an investment strategy and how does this show up in a portfolio? 💡 What if you have already started investing and want to shift to a systems approach? 💡 How does one measure outcomes in this approach, especially at the early stage? Countdown: Today Top 50 Farmers is launching in 67 days. We are working hard to get ready for the launch and nomination in October. I am so proud of the team that Analisa Winther and I have onboarded to carry out this project and vision with us. We can't wait to introduce them all. Next step: We soon look into 12 days of film production in Spain, Denmark, and Norway, where we will be filming and interviewing innovative regenerative farmers together with the incredibly talented Charles Post and Cyrus Sutton. This film will be part of our launch and the nomination. Do you have farmers in your network that you want to nominate in October? Then you can sign up on our website to get notified. Top 50 Farmers is about uniting converging islands of regeneration around the world (this year we begin in Europe). It is a celebration of those who are stewards of our earth through farming and a facilitator of support, knowledge and adoption in service of inclusive global collective action.

#Salmon farming is the biggest success story in #aquaculture, at least in the global north, but it is also full of huge challenges like #pollution. Picture salmon feces floating out of a net pen, sea #lice, and all the #chemical solutions used to combat these parasites. In the 3rd episode of the Regenerative Aquaculture series, supported by The Nest Family Office, we welcome Alf-Gøran Knutsen, CEO of Kvarøy Arctic https://lnkd.in/dgW_iXv4 Key topics: 🐟 why the salmon industry is such super young industry 🦠 why sea lice is a problem and what to do about it via 🔬 biology and lasers 💶 why ALf invested in land based salmon farms 🌾 why feed is so crucial in sustainability in salmon farming 💡 which innovations have been fundamental when it comes to feed

#Salmon: there isn’t a more contagious topic within aquaculture than salmon farming. With Alf-Gøran Knutsen, CEO of Kvarøy , a leader in the world of sustainable salmon #farming, we discuss the opportunities to grow a potentially very sustainable source of #protein and #omega3 in a way that makes sense. We explore the fascinating world of salmon, mostly open-net pen aquaculture in the #ocean in #Norway, but also hybrid flow-through models. We discuss biology and #technology, #feeds and the crazy developments in this very young industry. We also discuss #AI and how #lasers are shooting sea #lice from salmon underwater. This is new episode of the #RegenerativeAquaculture series supported by The Nest Family Office. ENJOY! https://lnkd.in/dq-d47SP
