🙌 Our partners from the European Rural Development Network, Latvijas Universitate, Academia Romana, Lithuanian Centre for Social Sciences, and more showcased the progress of #Tools4CAP and other #HorizonEurope projects at the 20th ERDN Conference. More info ⬇
On 11-13 September, the 20th ERDN Conference, entitled ‘Green transformation in European rural areas’, was held in Vilnius, Lithuania. Scientists and researchers from all over Europe and even beyond (!) for three days presented the results of their research, the progress of European projects, especially #HorizonEurope (#RIBES, ESIRA Project, SOILSCAPE PROJECT, GRANULAR - Giving rural actors novel data and re-useable tools to lead public action in rural areas, Tools4CAP, #FoodPathS and more), exchanged knowledge, plotted scenarios for the future and shared valuable insights full of deep thoughts on #GreenTransformation. The first day was dedicated to plenary sessions and a poster session in the beautiful historic interiors of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences. During breaks, lively discussions took place behind the scenes and new contacts were made. After a day full of scientific enrichment and the flow of evidence-based knowledge, the participants had the opportunity to integrate over an evening gala dinner and, as the ERDN tradition demands.. music. The second day of the conference was a field visit. We had the opportunity to visit the #Šironija hemp farm and observe the hemp oil pressing process. We rode the historic Siaurukas narrow-gauge railway. We also visited Supergarden. Džiovinta šaltyje - a plant producing freeze-dried products approved by the European Space Agency. In the evening, we were able to explore the cultural and culinary richness of the Panevėžys region. The last day of the conference included further inspiring plenary and poster sessions. We would like to thank very much all participants of our conference for their invaluable contribution, knowledge sharing, rich networking and a great time spent. We are also pleased to announce today that the next 21st ERDN Conference will take place next year in Romania. More information will be available soon. 🔍 Analysing data gaps for policy monitoring is one of the key objectives of #Tools4CAP. The #CAP 2023-2027 is ambitious in setting new performance indicators, so it is necessary to integrate additional sources of information and data into the policy monitoring framework. How will Tools4CAP address the integration and interoperability of new data sources and technology? • Focusing on technical agricultural technologies utilised by farmers in their daily activities. • Evaluating the potential of the valuable data sets generated and underexploited. • Analysing the use of landscape monitoring technologies and looking at how to integrate these data sources into the scope of monitoring some of the CAP performance indicators. • Specifying technical requirements, principles and an observation system for combining these data sources for use in monitoring the CAP Strategic Plans. Our partner Nikos Kalatzis from NEUROPUBLIC S.A. expands on the answer! 🧐 https://bit.ly/4dMDWCO Ecorys GAIA ΕΠΙΧΕΙΡΕΙΝ AEIDL (European Association for Innovation in Local Development) ITACyL (Instituto Tecnológico Agrario de Castilla y León) Abaco & Agronica Institute for Rural Development Research (IfLS) International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) CzechGlobe Wageningen University & Research Wageningen Economic Research OREADE BRECHE European Rural Development Network Teagasc AKI - Institute of Agricultural Economics EU CAP Network EU Science, Research and Innovation Slovak University of Agriculture

The European Commission has released a new study on funding for EU rural areas. The 2023-2027 programming period marks a shift in how rural development is approached, with national #CAP Strategic Plans designed to align with broader EU objectives. 🔎 Member States are required to evaluate their CAP Strategic Plans during and after the 2023-2027 period to assess contributions to CAP objectives. In such a way, CAP Strategic Plans requires a collective effort to embrace change, innovate, and leverage the best practices and tools available. In this context, the project #Tools4CAP – which stands for “Innovative Toolbox empowering effective CAP governance towards EU ambitions” – appears to support the improvement of the CAP governance and sustainability by aiding the implementation of 2023-2027 national Strategic Plans and preparing for post-2027 Plans. In the last year, Tools4CAP has published different deliverables that help to understand the scale of the current CAP and what tools are available for the design and monitoring of CSPs.
