Impact Driven Research
About us
UASNL are a group of UAS working together to increase their profile in the field of applied research and innovation. Universities become increasingly important in addressing societal challenges. These challenges are seen on all levels, where regional challenges are tackled by UAS, their research and innovations can be transferred to European and even global level. Universities of Applied Sciences are well equipped to tackle these challenges due to their approach to research and innovation. This approach is problem-oriented, often in a triple or quadruple helix model with society, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and other businesses partners. These developments resonate with the views on universities of the future, where cooperation with various partners becomes increasingly important to increase the results and societal impact of research. Applied research contributes to a future-proof labour market and tackles global challenges by addressing them in a practice based regional context. The UASNL EU Office in Brussels helps the 19 committed UAS to increase their profile in Europe, build a strong network and represent the voice of UASNL in the European context. One of the main challenge European funding programmes and policies in research and innovation face is the societal impact, or how to translate fundamental research into benefits for society. UAS have this process in their DNA, and all applied research follows the methodology of connecting research to society, SMEs and public institutions.

💡 Engaging CORE meeting yesterday, with insightful conversations about the future priorities for research and innovation, particularly in relation to the recently released "Align, Act, Accelerate" report on FP10 and the Draghi report on EU Competitiveness. During the Open Talk we had a pleasure of welcoming Joachim Wiemann Deputy Head of Unit of the Common Strategic Planning and Programming Service in DGRTD who joined us to further stimulate discussion about the future of MSCA, ERC, EIC, partnerships, missions and other instruments of the research framework programme. 🎉 We also pleased to share that Massimo Busuoli, head of the NTNU Brussels Office, reelected as Chair of UnILiON. Exciting times ahead as we continue to drive progress together. 👏 Thank you for hosting the meeting to Evelina Brännvall, PhD, Luleå University of Technology and Niklas Johansson, North Sweden European Office

🌳 🌲 🌳 🌲 🌳 🌲 🌳 🌲

On the way back from the European week of regions and cities, contemplating new developments: 🔸Competitiveness🔸is the new buzzword in Brussels since Draghi published his report on how to close Europe’s innovation gap. How can we do this? Some ideas: 🔸At the U!REKA European University panel discussion this morning at Helsinki EU Office the consensus was that we need more cooperation WITHIN Europe to be more competitive outside. 🔸From linear approaches to system thinking: involve stakeholders into the research process from the start to develop solutions close to market and society. 🔸Close the skills gap: use a challenge based approach to educate the future decision makers with a systemic mindset. Special thanks to Vanessa Debiais-Sainton, Joanna Kiernicka-Allavena, Hannes Raffaseder, Caelinn Cavalli, Rosa Kotoaro, Mona Roman and all U!REKA colleagues! We are looking forward to co-hosting this event with EURASHE and STARS EU during the European Week of Regions and Cities in Brussels. Will we meet you there? The European University Initiative was launched in 2019 to deepen transnational cooperation among Higher Education Institutions. Yet these alliances of HEIs, especially those with an applied nature, can also connect their regions, attracting and retaining talent and skills for economic transformation. This session will bring together regional shareholders, HEIs and European policy makers to discuss how European University Alliances can make a difference to their cities and regions. #EWRC #UASNL #EuropeanUniversities More info: https://lnkd.in/g6QX584T

The current state of affairs of FP10 and how UASNL highlights practice-oriented research in 'Brussels' ARMA-NL conference Thursday 3 October 2024 Abstract by the presenter: In this session, you will learn about who the Universities of Applied Sciences Netherlands (UASNL) is in the context of the EU Research and Innovation agenda's, about the UASNL position with respect to Framework Programme 10, with a focus on fostering impact in the region, about a call to action to work together to strengthen the EU research. UASNL is a collaboration of 20 Dutch Universities of Applied Sciences (UAS), who work together to strengthen their European research profile. Through the EU office in Brussels, UASNL contributes to policy developments, builds European partnerships and shows the value of applied research in answering the challenges Europe faces. In UAS, knowledge valorisation, applied scientific research and educational activities are strongly intertwined.
