About us
The U.S. Embassy is the direct link between the U.S. Government and the Kingdom of Belgium. Connections between Belgium and the United States predate both the founding of the Republic and even the founding of Belgium as a nation-state. Our transatlantic relationship remains more important than ever – and as a fellow founding member of NATO, Belgium remains at the heart of our economic, political, and security alliances that have guaranteed our shared peace, security, and prosperity for more than 70 years. The Embassy is home to over 300 employees representing multiple agencies of the U.S. Government who work tirelessly to deepen the U.S.-Belgian relationship, cooperating with our Belgian partners on a wide range of issues to strengthen our transatlantic ties and our commitment to shared values.

“Empowering women is key to building stronger economies and inclusive societies. Let’s continue to invest in leadership, innovation, and opportunities for all” said Ambassador Adler at the fifth #EmpowerHer networking event hosted by AmCham Belgium and Mastercard. In May 2022, Secretary Raimondo launched the Empower Her initiative with AmChams in Europe. Empower Her is about showcasing what companies are doing to address the inequities between men and women in their organizations, with the hope that other companies will be inspired by and emulate these best practices. Empowering women in the digital economy is not just a matter of fairness; it is a driver of economic growth and innovation. When women have equal access to financial resources and opportunities, entire communities benefit. A study by the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) found that companies with diverse leadership, including gender parity and fair pay practices, reported 19% higher innovation revenues, the share of revenues from new products or services launched in the past three years. 📸 AmCham Belgium

Thanks Caryl M., Economic Officer here at the U.S. Embassy in Belgium, for highlighting how committed we are to continuously bolster our strong U.S.-Belgian commercial ties and how much we value the partnerships we have with organizations like AmCham Belgium to achieve our strategic objectives. Cheers to AmCham Belgium, for this productive meeting and our ongoing collaborations!
Our Communications and Membership Committees engaged in an insightful conversation with Caryl Merten, Economic Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Belgium, who shed light on how the Embassy sets its strategic objectives and the vital role that partnerships—like the one with AmCham Belgium—play in achieving these goals. Caryl shared that the US Embassy recognizes Belgium as a vital trade partner that punches above its weight and is committed to strengthening US-Belgian commercial ties. A big thank you to Caryl for making the time to speak with our members and to Jean-Yves Daxhelet and MSD Belgium for the hospitality. Also, be sure to follow the U.S. Embassy in Belgium's LinkedIn page for timely updates and to stay connected! #AmChamBelgium #USEmbassyinBelgium

Meet Ayla, the newest member of our Shipping and Customs team at U.S. Embassy Brussels! With hundreds of American diplomats working in the Tri-Mission there are constantly families moving in and out of Belgium, either to/from the United States, or onward to other countries around the world. Ayla and her team play a critical role in ensuring that each diplomat’s personal effects are received when they arrive, and then packed up and shipped out when they leave. Originally from Bosnia, Ayla likes to learn about new cultures and speaks five languages, even teaching herself Korean in her spare time! What she loves about working at the U.S. Embassy is the mix of cultures among the local staff and with the Americans who’ve lived in different places. Very happy to meet with our #exchangealumni Abdelkarim Bellafkih to present him with the Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund (AEIF) certificate for his BoardInc project, and discuss how we will work together. BoardInc is the Belgian submission and winner of the 2024 AEIF which gives us the opportunity of collaborating with alumni to develop and implement public service-oriented projects. BoardInc is developed by Abdelkarim Bellafkih, an International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) alumnus and Leïla Maidane, a YTILI | Young Transatlantic Innovation Leaders Initiative alumna. BoardInc is a platform to unite, train and coach future board members and to close the diversity gap in existing boards. The initiative aims to make boards more inclusive, an objective that we fully support.
