EU Member States are preparing to present their medium-term fiscal structural plans for the next 4-7 years to the European Commission by 20th September, and there is a critical window of opportunity to prioritise investment in health prevention, including immunisation. This new report by The European House-Ambrosetti, supported by IFPMA and Vaccines Europe, calls for a shift towards prevention-based healthcare to secure economic stability for EU health systems. The economic value of prevention has been well documented. For example, adult immunisation programmes return up to 19 times their initial investment. Despite this, most Member States dedicate only 0.5% of their healthcare budgets to prevention. We need an urgent change in direction - embedding preventative healthcare such as immunisation into EU Member States’ fiscal policies is paramount to ensure the economic sustainability of healthcare, social care, and welfare systems. https://bit.ly/4gpqWVw

🌍 Vaccines: Essential for Health and Economic Security! 🌍 The G7 Health Ministers just sent a clear message—vaccines are not only critical for health but for economic stability and resilient health systems worldwide. Backing WHO’s Immunization Agenda 2030 (#IA2030), G7 leaders are making the case that vaccines are fundamental to stopping disease outbreaks, tackling antimicrobial resistance (#AMR), and reducing long-term healthcare costs. 🔹 Key G7 Takeaways: 1. Vaccination for all ages to protect health and ease economic pressure on healthcare 2. Prioritizing safe, affordable vaccines to strengthen health systems and boost resilience 3. Combating vaccine hesitancy and misinformation to build public confidence 4. Lowering cancer risks with vaccines against HPV and HBV, addressing major health burdens The economic impact? The Office of Health Economics recently reported that adult vaccination can deliver a massive 19:1 return on investment. Every dollar spent on vaccines saves nineteen in healthcare costs—easing pressure on health systems, supporting productivity, and creating big economic value. https://lnkd.in/eKDRBFrc The G7’s focus on vaccines is about more than health security; it’s about #VaccinesForLife driving a healthier, more resilient global future. Let’s make this vision a reality. https://lnkd.in/edAgKVnb

Every year in Europe, 1 in 5 people gets #flu and 160,000 adults are hospitalised with #RSV. Although the pandemic is over, #COVID19 continues to claim lives, with 1.1 million people dying from it in 2022 alone. And yet, vaccination rates for respiratory infections are very low. Urgent action is needed to address this and help protect Europeans from a ‘tripledemic’ this winter season #WeWontRest https://bit.ly/3YhJwaX

Globally, Phase 3 immunisation clinical trials are on the rise, while in the EU they have dropped by 50%. Fewer Phase 3 trials today mean fewer new vaccines in the future. In the EU, clinical trials are hampered by a slow and fragmented ecosystem. Current initiatives, at the current pace, are insufficient to stop and reverse a decade of decline. How can we #RebootLifeSciences and make Europe a global centre for immunisation clinical trials? Respiratory infections such as #flu, #COVID19 and #RSV pose a serious health challenge and inflict a significant burden on healthcare systems. Vaccination can help reduce the risk of getting sick and lower the chance of developing complications after infection. Collaboration between all stakeholders at EU and national levels is key to ensure people are protected through high vaccination uptake #WeWontRest https://bit.ly/3YhJwaX

𝗔 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀! This week has been filled with important discussions on vaccination and life-course immunisation: 📅 15 October: Vaccines Europe and AIPM hosted the "Immunisation for Life Conference". 📅 16 October: The Steering Group on Influenza Vaccination hosted the EU Flu Day. Both events brought together high-level public health and immunisation experts, including MBVE members, policymakers, and patient advocates. We were also deeply moved by the powerful testimony of Anaïs, sharing a personal story of complications from influenza, encouraging immunisation. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀: ✔️ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘃𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲: They not only represent a strong economic investment for society, but also reduce mortality, morbidity, complications, and antibiotic use, while promoting healthy ageing. ✔️ 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻: Misinformation and vaccine hesitancy, particularly among younger populations, are driven by a lack of trust in institutions. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗲 𝗱𝗼?  💡 𝗟𝗼𝗻𝗴-𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗲𝘀 to sustain life-course immunisation. 💡 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗯𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 with evidence-based awareness campaigns through effective communication on vaccines and healthcare professionals training. 💡 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘃𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 beyond traditional healthcare settings, including schools, workplaces, and pharmacies. 💡 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽 𝗮𝗻 𝗘𝗨 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆 focused on improving healthcare practitioners’ education on immunisation and communication with patients. 💡 𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀 for continuous monitoring and data-driven immunisation strategies, drawing on existing good practices as examples. 💡 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝘁𝗼𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳 𝗶𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 across EU Member States, with a unified IT system and an electronic vaccination passport for all Europeans. 💡 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝟳𝟱% 𝗳𝗹𝘂 𝘃𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁 and expand it to include COVID-19 and RSV vaccinations. #EUFluDay #LifeCourse #Immunisation #Vaccination #PublicHealth
