ValCUN is a young dynamic tech start-up, developing a new & disruptive metal 3D printing technology. Our mindset and hunger for technology & innovation allowed us to take the risk to re-think current state-of-the-art technology to tackle their shortcomings that hold back this tech from gaining adoption in mass production and outside capital-intensive industries. This collaborative work with ValCUN focuses on understanding the metal molten deposition (MMD) process to achieve the desired properties of the Al alloy-built material. To this end, we developed a finite element method-based model to correlate the thermal history, mechanical properties, geometry, and resulting microstructure. Stay tuned for more updates!

Post-RAPID musings: Product market fit is everything. The consensus at #rapid2024 was there are too many #additivemanufacturing companies chasing too few dollars, with many AM companies still struggling to find PMF. The most amount of excitement I saw this week* was actually at the ☕️ line, where everyone were praising the coffee printer and half of us googled the price and considered buying it. When you truly solve a pain point (e.g. decent coffee at a trade show) people will line up for your solution, WOM, and when you don’t … you know the rest. * well, maybe except for Tuesday’s keynote panel ;-)
