🚀 𝚁𝚎𝚜𝚎𝚊𝚛𝚌𝚑 𝚂𝚑𝚘𝚠𝚌𝚊𝚜𝚎 🔬 Bridging Quantum Chemistry & Quantum Physics Through HPC! 🚀 In the latest research by a team from Ghent University and the BCMATERIALS, BASQUE CENTER FOR MATERIALS, APPLICATIONS AND NANOSTRUCTURES, a groundbreaking approach—Bloch Orbital Expansion—provides new insights into the fuzzy band structure of quantum dots. 💡 Key Findings: ✅ Quantum dot orbitals can be classified—some match bulk semiconductor band structures, while others are surface-dominated states. ✅ Surface effects are critical—seemingly perfect quantum dots don’t always emit well-defined colors unless properly passivated. ✅ HPC simulations are essential—allowing researchers to screen quantum dot geometries and predict their electronic properties. ✅ Cadmium-free materials are the future—this method helps in designing eco-friendly quantum dots for displays and lighting. 📌 Why does this matter? 🌞 Space weather forecasting at its finest! 🚀 Professor Stefaan Poedts, a long-time VSC user, continues to push the boundaries of plasma-astrophysics using our supercomputing facilities. His research on coronal mass ejections (CMEs) is crucial for understanding and predicting solar storms that can impact Earth's technology and infrastructure. ⚡🌍 🔬 We’re proud that VSC's HPC expertise plays a key role in supporting his computational modeling, helping to refine predictions and ensure timely warnings.
