🚨Out now - Wind energy data for Europe: Autumn 2024 🆕📊WindEurope’s newest data report reveals that #Europe built 6.4 GW of new wind farms in the first half of the year. Germany built the most with 1.7 GW, followed by France 1.2 GW and Spain 876 MW. Which brings Europe to 278 GW of #windpower capacity. This autumn update outlines the latest data for #windenergy our expectations for the rest of the decade. Other findings reveals that turbine orders increased by 11% from 2023 and auction volumes are strong with 19.7 GW of new capacity awarded. But challenges are holding back progress: grid bottlenecks, delays in permitting, and difficulties in securing big investments. What needs to happen next? 1. Grid expansion: New connections and grid updates must be fast-tracked to keep up with the growing capacity. 2. Permitting: While some countries like Germany are making progress, others need to catch up and fully implement the new EU rules. 3. Ports: Investments in infrastructure are essential to support the increase in offshore wind projects. Get the full report 👉 https://lnkd.in/emJhkjDf

Today’s Greek newspaper To VIMA hosts an #interview with WindEurope’s CEO Giles Dickson to Machie Tratsa 👏 Giles discusses the development of wind energy in #Europe, the challenges faced by the European industry and the increased targets for new windfarms in Europe. Europe's politicians understand the benefits of domestic wind energy: As he says, “It is #cheap and #reliable, helps reduce electricity costs, and keeps the industry competitive. It reduces Europe's #dependence on imported fossil fuels and strengthens its #geopolitical position. It helped Europe withstand the blackmail from Russian gas. The EU has now set the target for 425 GW of wind power by 2030, up from 220 GW today; however, the current trajectory shows that it is falling short of the target.” Therefore, we need #investments in wind turbine and component #factories, electrical #grids and #storage, as well as in #ships, #logistics, and #ports. Moreover, strengthening #electrification. ➡️ For #Greece, he comments on the importance and the opportunity to #export green energy by fully exploiting its wind potential and refers to ELETAEN’s research, which documents that "a higher share of wind energy compared to solar energy would lead to a smoother distribution profile of RES production, which would reduce the needs for curtailments and storage and would lead to even cheaper electricity prices for consumers." 💡 Giles will speak at the energypress.gr conference in Athens on 1 November

🌊 North Seas countries set out vision on wind supply chain and grid build-out Yesterday the Energy Ministers of the 9 North Seas reaffirmed their ambition to transform the North Seas into “Europe’s green power plant.” They gave clear recommendations to the new EU Commission on how best to support that. Among them: 🏭 Strengthen the EU offshore wind supply chain 💭 Rethink offshore wind financing 🔌 Get hybrid offshore wind farms moving 🤝 Involve the UK fully in all of this Two recommendations stood out: The Ministers proposed a new "digital transparency tool" and a new "offshore regional facility". 🔗 If you want to know what this is all about read our press release: https://lnkd.in/eN5CrQr4

🎒 ✏️ Exciting visit for these Irish kids! Earlier this week our partners hosted a local school visit to Meenadreen Wind Farm in County Donegal, Ireland. The pupils from St Ernan’s National School learned all about wind energy, went inside a turbine and even tried on safety kit. WindEurope is piloting the 'Education for Green Transition and Cross-Sectoral Cooperation' project in Ireland, Poland, and Denmark. This project aims to engage the younger generation with the energy transition but also to strengthen community engagement. This initiative connects multiple sectors to offer young people hands-on experiences, such as wind farm visits, and promotes partnerships between schools, industry, and local stakeholders. Many thanks to Wind Energy Ireland, STEAM Educationand Energia Group for their contributions. Mariana Batista Ekaterine Gogoberishvili

#RESource2024 kicked off in Amsterdam! 🤝📜 1,400 participants, 350 energy buyers and over 400 prearranged B2B meetings - thrilling! It's great that so many energy suppliers and buyers came and discussed at the annual event of the RE-Source Platform. 2024 is set to become another record year for the European PPA market, with 10.7 GW signed already this year. Europe needs to accelerate this positive advancement in the energy transition. "High targets on paper won't unlock renewable projects on the ground, we need policies that deliver investment and leverage renewable energy sourcing. All policies. Including the Delegated Act on batteries." said Malgosia Bartosik Deputy CEO WindEurope. "As Ruud Kempener (Team Leader for Industrial Decarbonisation- European Commission) said we must make implementation sexy!" concluded Pierre TARDIEU Chief Policy Officer WindEurope. 🔗 To learn more about PPAs development in Europe read the article in the comment section below.

🇩🇪 Germany acts to ensure level playing field and data security in wind energy. In a new five-point Action Plan, the German Government acknowledges that there is no level-playing field between European and non-European wind turbine suppliers - and urges the EU to do something about it. 💻🔌The German Government also commits to applying robust cyber and data security laws to its wind turbines to ensure the highest security standards. 💬 “Well done to the German Government for acting to ensure a level playing field between Europe’s wind energy supply chain and manufacturers from outside of Europe. There is no place in Europe for unfairly subsidised prices or financing terms. Well done to Germany too for acting on the crucial issue of data security. There are hundreds of sensors on a modern wind turbine. Whoever puts them on the components has priceless information and the power to control the functioning of those components and the turbine.” said WindEurope CEO Giles Dickson. 🔗 Read our press release here: https://lnkd.in/eQbgfNZZ 🔗 Read the German 5-point Action Plan here: https://lnkd.in/e9z5pZvd
