The second edition of the AFSRU Romania #HR Insights forum that I attended today in Bucharest was rich and engaging. So many people gathered today to talk about the realities of the HR in Romania. Congrats to the organisers - Sorina Donisa and her small and beautiful team - for creating an impactful, engaging agenda and a great venue to ease attendees into a fruitful dialogue, networking and learning. Romanian labour market is facing multiple challenges, including a significant brain drain, regulatory environment seemingly out of step with the labour market developments, competition (fair/unfair?), to name but a few. To top it off, a decline in the agency work business in light of challenging economic conditions. On the positive side, I saw an incredible potential for growth and co-creation. The room was full of passionate representatives of employment agencies, large client company representatives sharing their positive and inspiring views and stories, and various government structures representatives, sharing their policy outlook and challenges they face. One meeting is not a miracle solution to all problems. It is a stepping stone (pun intended) towards a constructive dialogue, which will yield a fruitful cooperation in the long run. I wish the Romanian reality to reach the heights of Italian and French success in their work. Not least, the World Employment Confederation stands ready to assist and offer guidance in this endeavour! The Work We Want

  • A traditional Chinese proverb says "A single thread cannot make a cord, and a single tree does not make a forest.". As an industry association, we know about the power of collaboration and witness it every day at all levels of our membership. This week our President Bettina Schaller attends the annual meeting of our North East Asian regional organisation, hosted by our Chinese global corporate member 英格玛人力资源集团(Engma Human Resource Group)in their beautiful (and lavishly green!) headquarters. Inspiring to see JASSA (Japan), CAFST (China) and KORSHIA (South Korea) coming together to discuss their common challenges and collaborate to advance the image of the #HRservices industry in North East #Asia!

  • Last week we held our monthly #WEConversations, our series of webinars to explore a whole range of issues about the world of #work. For the October edition, we focused on the economic and labour market outlook for the months to come and our Corporate Members The Adecco Group, Randstad and Gi Group Holding shared some golden nuggets.

It was a pleasure to take part in a WEConversation "Insiders’ Insights: HR Services’ Outlook on Labour Market Challenges" With Daniele Merlerati of the #GIGroup, Martin Meier of #theAdeccoGroup and Dominique Hermans of #Randstad, all that moderated by the one and only Shazia Ejaz of #REC. A lot of great insights and golden nuggets to think about in the coming days and weeks. My key "aha moments" and takeaways are: ⭐ Private employment agencies can and do play a role in the challenging #labourmarket situation by reaching out to the #talent that has not found a way to the labour market yet, and giving them an extra push in #training if/where needed. ⭐ Every storm has a silver lining, and when the portfolio of services and geographies is diversified, then economic or business pitfalls in one area are compensated by an uptick in other areas. Stay focused. ⭐ #AI creates a lot of uncertainty at the moment. The more optimistic scenario depicts "life as more beautiful and more human thanks to AI." ⭐ #Qualifications and #skills: most schools in most countries offer obsolete (last century) education, so young people coming out of school are unfit for the modern world of work. This needs to change. ⭐ New #generation is not looking for a job in the same way as before, does not want to work as much and for as long as earlier generations, and does not care about the compensation as much as #flexibility. ⭐ #Circular labour markets: unemployment is immediately unproductive, so why not adopt the circular labour market concept, letting the workers choose their contract type, their work mode and working conditions? Current labour market policies are unfit for purpose, so why not put in place transition policies that help people just avoid unemployment altogether? Thanks to all for such an inspiring debate. My only wish is that we had more time to go into detail on each of the above :) World Employment Confederation The Work We Want

  • During this week marked by World Day for #DecentWork, we’re exploring how the #HRservices industry contributes to the four pillars of the Decent Work agenda: 4️⃣ Social Dialogue The HR services industry has a strong tradition of structured social dialogue at various levels. This dialogue has led to innovative initiatives, such as training funds financed by HR services agencies and trade unions. Thanks to those bipartite funds, more than 1 million agency workers benefitted from training in Italy, Switzerland, France, and the Netherlands alone, in 2022. #TheWorkWeWant #WDDW24

  • During this week marked by World Day for #DecentWork, we’re exploring how the #HRservices industry contributes to the four pillars of the Decent Work agenda: 3️⃣ Rights at #work. There is a broad misconception that only a permanent, full-time job offers security. According to our data, covering more than 30 countries where agency work contracts are offered, 85% of jurisdictions have national-level regulation on equal pay and/or equal treatment of agency workers. Not only that but also the respect for health and safety at work, non-discrimination, freedom of association and access to remedy are all principles enshrined in our Code of Conduct. #TheWorkWeWant #WDDW24

  • During this week marked by World Day for #DecentWork, we’re exploring how the #HRservices industry contributes to the four pillars of the Decent Work agenda: 2️⃣ Social Protection #Flexibility has become a non-negotiable in the world of #work. But embedding flexibility in a sustainable way requires appropriate and balanced legal frameworks. The HR services industry is pioneering in promoting such new legal models. One example: the “CDI intérimaire” (the “open-ended agency work contract”) in #France. A win-win for both employers and workers, as this case study from Randstad France shows: https://lnkd.in/exYttzT7 Read more: https://lnkd.in/eC_JJbaN #TheWorkWeWant #WDDW24 Prism'emploi

  • During this week marked by World Day for #DecentWork, we’re exploring how the #HRservices industry contributes to the four pillars of the Decent Work agenda: 1️⃣ #employment creation. Labour markets are currently in a situation where many jobs are vacant. Yet, employers face labour shortages. Rather than a lack of workers, the problem rather lies in a mismatch with the skills required or some talent pools being overlooked. Our research #TheWorkWeWant shows that 52% of organisations plan to source talent from under-employed sectors of the workforce and provide them with the support they need to be successful at work, in order to expand their pool of talent within the next two years. HR services agencies have expertise in identifying those talents and helping them access labour markets. Read more: https://lnkd.in/enf5qrtP #WDDW24 #TheWorkWeWant

Today is World Day for Decent Work #WDDW24. Despite the significant progress made over the past decades, #DecentWork is not yet a given for many around the world. The International Labour Organization defines four dimensions for decent #work: #employment creation, social protection, rights at work, and social dialogue. Within the #HRservices industry, we strive to offer better labour market outcomes for all. Let’s explore how we do so across the four dimensions of the Decent Work Agenda. Decent Work is #TheWorkWeWant!
