Include bladder cancer in the list of occupational cancers in future revisions of the EU Carcinogens Directive. 2️⃣ Ensure the implementation of minimum standards on tobacco use. The introduction of pictorial warnings on bladder cancer in the EU Tobacco Directive should complement these actions. 📣🗣️WBCPC Executive Director, Alex Filicevas, is present at the 44th Annual SIU Congress in New Delhi, India, and today he presented our latest abstract poster: Divergent Experiences of Bladder Cancer Patients: A Focus on Advanced and Metastatic Disease Stages. Based on the findings from our Global Bladder Cancer Patient and Carer Survey, he highlighted critical disparities in patient experiences across different stages of the disease: 📊 Key findings included: 🩺 Only 50% of patients with advanced/metastatic bladder cancer felt their diagnosis was communicated clearly, compared to 65% of those with NMIBC. ⏰ 48% of metastatic bladder cancer patients delayed seeing a doctor because they believed their symptoms weren’t serious. 🏥 57% of advanced/metastatic bladder cancer patients reported severe impacts on daily activities, in contrast to 17%of NMIBC patients. 🔍 Bladder cancer has escalated to the 9th most diagnosed cancer worldwide, with over 614,298 cases reported in the latest GLOBOCAN report by the IARC - International Agency for Research on Cancer / World Health Organization. ❗This represents a significant 7.1% increase from 2020 figures. 👥 Gender plays a significant role in cancer prevalence, with bladder cancer now the 6th most common among men. In 2022, there were 523,674 new cases in men alone, accounting for 5.4% of all male cancer diagnoses. Day 1 of #BladderCancerForum24 is a wrap! 🎉 What an inspiring and insightful day! From impactful discussions such as: 🌎 Bladder Cancer impact in Latin America and the expected rise in incidence, pointing to a need to build capacities for bladder cancer patient support and advocacy. 🛠️ Patient advocacy landscape in Latin America from the challenges to the advances. 🌱 Starting a bladder cancer patient group from scratch with two examples from Australia and Spain, showing that it is achievable and the resources and support from WBCPC can help advocates on their journey. 🤝 Joining forces with healthcare professionals and bladder cancer patient advocates is critical to develop patient information resources and to ensure signposting to these resources and information for patients at the right time of their care pathway. 🗣️ The role of the patient voice in Health Technology Assessment - why we need to get involved and how to do that, with examples from Canada, South Africa and France. 🔬 Latest research advances in bladder cancer shaping new approaches to treatment of non-muscle invasive and muscle-invasive bladder cancer that improve patient outcomes and patient quality of life. 🔍 The evolving challenges and new opportunities in clinical trials, paving the way for more inclusive and effective approaches. The energy and passion in the room were incredible, with participants engaging in meaningful conversations, exchanging ideas, and building connections that will surely lead to positive change.
