YUFETHON 2024: What a success! 🏆🏅 This year's edition, held on October 25th and 26th, saw 12 brilliant students from the University of Eastern Finland, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Sveučilište u Rijeci / University of Rijeka, and University of Bremen coming together to address pressing global challenges. Representing more than six nationalities, these young minds developed creative solutions for two challenging problems that our society is facing nowadays: Urban Ecosystems and Redefining European identity. After careful deliberation, the jury awarded first prize to a team whose app leverages AI and AR to revolutionize city planning. It’s inspiring to see how European collaboration in education, culture, and innovation took center stage during the recent State Visit of the Belgian King and Queen to France.   The Belgian delegation was warmly welcomed by the diplomatic representatives of Flanders, Yves Wantens, and Wallonia, Paul Verwilghen, in beautiful Paris, where the strong bonds between Belgium and France were celebrated through a variety of events and dialogues. At one of these events, Minister-President Matthias Diependaele highlighted Flanders' role as a key European partner, emphasizing the commitment to strengthen Flanders' research and entrepreneurship in a drive to reinforce Europe.    Another highlight of this State Visit was the opportunity for students Nassim Talbi and Delia Arrunategui, accompanied by their respective rectors, Herwig Leirs (University of Antwerp) and Daniel Mouchard-Zay (Université Sorbonne Nouvelle), to engage in a heartfelt conversation with Her Majesty Queen Mathilde. They discussed the impactful ways in which students are contributing to the YUFE Alliance , of which both UAntwerpen and Sorbonne are active members. Her Majesty learned about the transformative role of these European alliances in shaping a new generation of globally minded Europeans, instilling qualities like global citizenship and cultural awareness – essential in today’s interconnected world.   The visit underscored the power of collaborative efforts that not only strengthen historical ties but also actively work towards building a stronger European future.
