TDious Experiences volume II: The Remote Broadcast Production Technical Director [Mobile Unit Setup Part 2b - Transmission, Feeds, Switcher Mapping & Keyer Layering] At about this point in the setup I huddle with the EIC to discuss outbound feeds. From transmission to emergency failsafe scenarios, we discus it all. We identify router outputs to accommodate all video feeds that I will need to manage: from booth monitors and talent positions, to any screens or house courtesy feeds, these destinations are all ultimately fed by router outputs. Even though those router destinations will all live on my TD router panel, I utilize switcher auxes to feed certain router points. Switcher auxes offer the quick access to some feeds and are easily controlled by switcher macros, bus links or E-Mems with the safety of having that ultimate router layer in case of emergency. Booth desk monitors that may be visible in an on-camera are all fed upstream by switcher auxes so that I can flip them to a nice show logo or something other than the inherent camera feedback you would otherwise see. The same goes for screens feeds, or other house courtesy feeds: during rehearsals and commercials those are always setup to go to a wide beauty. Protecting our talent and ensuring that the house is protected from anything we may show in commercial is critical. Switcher Auxes feeding those router outputs allows quick and easy control of those feeds. Now that the monitor wall is routed and all of its sources have been named in the UMD (under monitor display) and now that the EIC, Video distribution team and I have a plan for where everything is leaving the truck and landing within the venue, I actually begin my source patching, mapping and keyer assigning process. One thing to remember when mapping your panel: M/E3A doesn’t need to be mapped into M/E3A. Likewise, M/E2A should never be mapped into M/E2A. There are only two places where all of the M/Es you’re using should be mapped: PGM and to the AUX Bus. Be smart about your mapping and don’t waste space on things you not only don’t need, but that could get you in real trouble. […concluded in Part 2c…]

Broadcasters will have the ability to try new technologies out without breaking an existing service. The bootstrap, as described in A/321, allows emitted Frames to be different, including non-ATSC related signals. The time of the next similar frame is signaled so that the existing service can continue.” The D2X physical layer protocol shown below is intended for battery powered receivers (UE) including reduced capability IoT and wearables. D2X is harmonized for future interworking 5G NR (MBS) RAN layer 2 Cloud (datacenter) with 5G PDCP (Packet Data Convergence Protocol). D2X is built on foundation of OFDMA with (24) sub-carriers defined as (1) physical resource block (PRB) in frequency and (N) PRB determines bandwidth of physical layer resources. The use LDPC with Non-uniform constellations with LDPC FEC frame length 16200 bits and 12 code rates. D2X supports SFN topologies with (5, 10, 15, 20, 25) km Inter-Site Distance (ISD). Channel estimation using 10 scattered pilot patterns along with continual pilot patterns. Three IFFT sizes (2K, 4K and 8K) supports various bandwidths (5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 12, 14, 15, 16, 18, 20, 21, 24) MHz RF carriers. The D2X receivers (UE) adapt and use (512, 1024, 2K, 4K, 8K) FFT depending on bandwidth (number of PRB) and for battery savings. TDious Experiences volume II: The Remote Broadcast Production Technical Director [Mobile Unit Setup Part 2c: Keyer Assignments & Keyer Priority] The default Keyer Priority on every popular switcher is Keyer 1 on top of 2 which is on top of 3 and so on. Remember to set your Keyer priorities as well as your transition rates for them before you begin storing EMEMS. My Effect 000 on all of my M/Es has a Source Hold (so that recalling this effect won’t take me to another source) but it does clear all of that M/Es keyers, sets them to their base assignments and appropriately layers the stack based on my needs for that show. For example, my PGM level Keyers may have Keyer 1 (Image Store 1 for Network branding) at the highest priority, followed by Keyer 2 (SpotBox A for Transitions) but then Keyer 6 may be THIRD in the stack for the Telestrator. The reason is because I generally assign a GPI to clear the Tele on my Replay Out move. Having the Tele UNDER the SpotBox transition allows that clear to happen seamlessly … unless, of course, I have a certain analyst we have lovingly nicknamed “Picasso” for his ability to paint the most amazing abstract art using this 1970s technology and who may just keep on drawing long after my GPI has cleared the screen. Do you manage, configure, or operate a modern video production or broadcast facility? Are you familiar with the new flavors of video and media over IP (MoIP) formats like NDI, SMPTE 2110, SMPTE 2022? Do you plan on adding any of these formats or IP workflows to your existing digital or analog facility? There is a whole new way to design and operate with packets in lieu of single signals on coaxial cables. The options of multiple varied simultaneous formats, streaming or broadcasting in these same multiple simultaneous quality streams, greatly expanding capability while at same time massive reduction in hardware requirements is now a reality. Some are lucky enough to be able to build and design a greenfield from scratch new media facility fully IP centric. But most of us will be relegated to adding "IP islands" in existing "hybrid" facilities. In our day's final session we will delve into a typical day in the life of an engineer in managing quality and reliability in a hybrid SDI/2110 facility, which is where most of us will be the next few years. IP is just another I/O interface: It’s a way to get video, audio, and data to or from a switch. This session will discuss what operators and engineers need to know. A OFDMA Resource Unit (RU) Size = (24) Sub-Carriers. D2X Virtual Slices are (N) x RU. This is used to schedule OFDM resources (8) Virtual slices shown. #TVLogic Tech Tip. #Anamorphic de-squeeze TVLogic F-5A, F-7HS, F-10A, LUM-095G & VFM-055A all offer an anamorphic de-squeeze function to restore the correct geometry to an anamorphic image. This is in the Display/video chapter of the menu & is an Aspect setting. In a number of our older, smaller monitors this feature is also available. One of the scan settings allows you to choose Use Aspect. Once selected you can set any calculated aspect ratio.

VideoTek v1.9 Released! Changelog: - Introduced Type="nits" support for the recently introduced PQ Mode to display the 0, 203, 1000, 5000 and 10000 nits markers. - Introduced Detailed=true support to allow the user to see all the 1k nits increments in PQ mode (i.e the 0, 203, 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, 6000, 7000, 8000, 9000, 10000 nits markers). When Mode="PQ" and Type="nits", then it's possible to set a boolean option Detailed=true to include a detailed visualization with a 1000 nits step increase all the way up to 10k nits. Given that such a visualization can make the whole monitor very crowded (especially in the upper region given that PQ is logarithmic), by default it's set to "false" which means that it will only show 0 nits, 203 nits, 1000 nits, 5000 nits and 10000 nits. I created this Spice Script of the 6N16B Tube to show that the Tube Specification Guidebook still has some use and to help design an amplifier using this tube. I had difficulty finding 6N16B specifications that were not in Russian. The tube works great, even though I get a log() warning, and my gain is off by 5; I have not used spice in a long time. 😎 😂 You may have noticed that I designed my 6N16B as a single tube instead of a dual tube. It was easier for me to do the math that way (OK, I am no math expert, but I get by with a bit of help from my friends); the separation of the sections might explain the gain being off by 5 since the lack of interactive characteristics might explain the decrease in gain. Anywho, it works! Intellectual Exercises are essential for resetting the mind; I am just rediscovering that fact. In my original script I used LOG() but in this script I replaced LOG() with LN() to clear up the E1 Warnings. It worked on Multisim 14.3, but not on Multisim 12.3, go figure.
