Great Work in Progress: Yesterday and today the General Assembly of the AIDAVA project takes place at the Põhja-Eesti Regionaalhaigla in the beautiful Tallinn, Estonia. Of course, Maastricht University Institute of Data Science's Distinguished Professor Michel Dumontier (project PI), and Assistant Professor Dr. Remzi Celebi (project coordinator), are present as well 😁 In this 2-day Assembly, clinicians, business analysts, and members of the AIDAVA Ethics and Sustainability Advisory Board will review evaluation reports, update business requirements, and brainstorm the future of digital health tools. Work Package leaders will provide an overview of the progress made since the last meeting, paving the way for the project's next phase. Today (16 October), the focus includes the evaluation of the AIDAVA prototype, with insights from key sites like NEMC (North Estonia Medical Centre), MUG (Medizinische Universität Graz), and Maastro. Our colleague Remzi Celebi and Isabelle de Zegher have published the AIDAVA Opinion Paper "A Roadmap for Health Data Interoperability". https://lnkd.in/ekHJUGC7 This paper is the first draft of a roadmap for health data interoperability that should be further developed in Europe as part of the European Health Data Space (EHDS) implementation. The authors state that, in order to solve the problem of interoperability and quality of health data, a structured roadmap involving individuals as active stakeholders, is needed: "We believe that data interoperability can be solved if each citizen has a personal, high-quality, integrated health record compliant with a global data sharing standard - encompassing relevant existing data standards - that supports seamless reuse. Collective data interoperability can be achieved by ensuring that each patient's data is compliant with the standard data-sharing format in an increasingly digital healthcare ecosystem. This will not only benefit patients and their care providers but also help reduce biases and mistakes in the AI tools using these health data". AIDAVA (www.aidava.eu/) stands for "AI-powered Data Curation & Publishing Virtual Assistant". The project is funded by the European Union. Data quality is critical in healthcare; this is inherently linked with #datainteroperability. The problem has been known for over 25 years. Are we going to wait another 25 years to solve it? Is this acceptable when individual patients need an integrated, interoperable record to maximise the quality of care? Several countries have drawn up interoperability #roadmaps, which alleviate the problem but do not solve it structurally. #AIDAVA, a Horizon Europe project launched in September 2022, has enabled us to delve deeper into the issue and potential solutions. One of the clear conclusions of the work to date is that a different approach is possible and necessary. The attached white paper (https://lnkd.in/e6AjDqpC) is a FIRST DRAFT of a roadmap for health data interoperability that should be further developed in Europe as part of the EHDS implementation.
