Plastics and foams for a sustainable future
About us
On the way to rethink plastics. Without doubt our everyday lives rely on plastics and as consumers we enjoy the lightweight, durability and versatility they bring. There are countless of advantages plastics bring to innovation, but they must also be sustainable. At BASF Performance Materials, we envision a sustainable world with plastics. We explore new ways to make the lifecycle of plastics more sustainable: from how we can produce plastics more resource-efficiently, to how we can use them better, to how we can give them a new life. We call this transformation #ourplasticsjourney. But we cannot do it on our own. That is why we are working with partners along the value chain and create solutions together. Together we can reach our goal of a cleaner tomorrow faster. #ourplasticsjourney has begun, now it is time for you to embark.

Greater things and better days are coming your way, so keep holding on🙏. Our colleague Afsaneh Nabifar, Head of Global Advocacy and Sustainability for Biopolymers, keeps holding on. Holding on for tackling the challenges in advancing organic #recycling of compostable materials. Some days ago, she celebrated the first anniversary of the Compostable by Design Platform, where she is Chair of the Board of Directors. This foundation is committed to further #development and establishment of large scale organic recycling of #compostable materials in the #packaging sector. Keep on rocking, Afsaneh👏.
I am still energized from yesterday's meeting of Compostable by Design Platform (https://lnkd.in/eKsZJtVX) as we celebrated our first anniversary. The positive response to the keynote speech by Jane Gilbert highlighted a shared passion among our cross-value chain sponsorship for #circulareconomy and #soilhealth and our belief that compostable material can play a role there. Our #honest yet #solution-oriented discussions throughout the day emphasized that alignment and also proactive engagement of the whole value chain are essential to respond to new opportunities and tackle challenges in advancing organic recycling of compostable material. Only together we can redirect risk, reward, and impact to advance compostable solutions, in a sustainable and meaningful manner! A great teamwork to make such a memorable day happen Henk Vooijs, Claudia Amos, Maria Holopainen, Susanne Kulhanek, Marco Ricci (Jürgensen), Emily Nichols, Bruno De Wilde, Philippe Dewolfs, Lucy Cowton, Maelenn Macedo-Ravard, Christian Garaffa, Astrid K Torres, CPP

Paper vs. plastic: For some people, paper is the good cop and plastic seems the bad one. 💡But #didyouknow that paper as such is not suitable for most food #packaging, especially with liquid or fatty ingredients? #Paper is usually coated on the inside with a polyethylene film which makes the paper packaging unsuitable for throwing it in organic waste. ✅By using a coating with our biopolymer #ecovio®, food-soiled packaging made of paper can be either composted in garden home compost or industrial composting as specified by legislation. This extends the end-of-life options for paper packaging and supports organics recycling of food waste. What do you think of this circular solution for paper food packaging? Leave us a comment.📬 #basf #OurPlasticsJourney #biopolymers #recycling
