Science should be transparent and accessible to all. That is why we practice open science. Over the last years, the share of our #OpenAccess publications has constantly increased. Currently, we publish almost all our publications openly. The result? Our publications are among the most trusted in the global scientific community and directly inform the #EU policies. Ever wondered how doctors analyse your blood test results and set those final values? It's a complex process, and results can vary depending on methods and laboratories. Certified Clinical Reference Materials (CRMs) play a crucial role in ensuring standardised and comparable results across different labs. We have decades of experience in producing clinical CRMs, and our scientists have just released a new one to help diagnose beta-thalassemia, a genetic blood disorder that impacts haemoglobin production and could lead to severe anaemia. Interested in how these reference materials work? Swipe ➡ to find out! And learn more about our latest CRM here https://lnkd.in/d2QrRbvK

Let’s talk about the key role of #EUfunded research in this field. Funding Research & Innovation (R&I) on mental health has been a long-standing priority for the EU and continues to be one under #HorizonEU 💡 Why? Because R&I is crucial in delivering tailored solutions to the specific needs of people struggling with their mental health. It provides the evidence needed for the development of effective tools and policies to counter mental health-related challenges in areas such as health, education, social protection, arts and culture, and employment. Today and on the occasion of #WorldMentalHealthDay, read more on how R&I delivers concrete solutions and new knowledge on mental health 👇

How can we close the gap towards greater protein self-sufficiency? Currently, the EU’s demand for protein-rich food and feed is sustained by imports from third countries. 66% of the high-protein feed we use is imported, with 96% of soya bean meal coming from outside the EU. This dependency on protein sources exposes the EU to price fluctuations and supply chain disruptions, and it is also associated with higher greenhouse gas emissions and biodiversity loss. Our scientists analysed four scenarios that could reshape the future of EU’s protein supply and demand. A shift towards healthier diets and measures to incentivise sustainable protein production can help improve EU protein self-sufficiency and reduce agriculture GHG emissions. Addressing the EU’s protein gap requires a comprehensive approach to foster both competitiveness and sustainability. Do you know where exactly the gas heating up our homes comes from? Now you can check that out through our EU gas supply dashboard! It provides data on gas flows by pipeline, liquified natural gas (LNG), storage and consumption. All this critical information helps EU decision-makers take swift and informed actions to ensure energy security across the EU. The dashboard allows everyone to generate their own charts and create customised figures that provide an overview of trends and patterns. The launch of this tool comes at a crucial time for EU energy policy too. The 2021/2022 energy crisis and the measures adopted by the EU to mitigate its effects showed the importance of monitoring and strategic planning of gas storage and flow.
