About us

We are committed to doing our part in helping society meet the dual challenge of meeting the world’s growing demand for energy while reducing environmental impacts and the risks of climate change. As an important supplier of oil and gas, a major refiner of crude oil for fuels and lubricants, and one of Europe's leading petrochemical companies, employing over 14,000 people across Europe, we have been helping to meet energy demand in Europe for over a century through our main commercial brands: Esso, Mobil and Mobil1. We are committed to addressing the key challenge of energy development in Europe — developing affordable and secure supplies of energy in a safe and environmental responsible manner while maintaining EU competitiveness. Our products are marketed through a network of service stations, and also to commercial segments, such as aviation, industrial and wholesale, equipment manufacturers, and marine.

Lunch and Learn on National Coming Out Day 🌯🍕 ExxonMobil’s PRIDE chapter in Brussels recently hosted a discussion on how other companies work to support the LGBTQ+ community. They were joined by Clara Ferreira da Silva and Cedrick Veryser from Kearney, who shared their stories and introduced employees to PROUD, Kearney’s global network for LGBTQ+ employees and allies. PROUD colleagues come from all levels and areas. They work to create a supportive environment that allows people to be themselves, feel appreciated at their jobs, and develop their careers. A big thank you to our hosts and our guest speakers for their efforts to promote inclusion and diversity.

Carbon capture and storage is a proven technology that can help Europe navigate the climate transition. CCS is “one of the tools needed to accelerate the EU’s green transition”, according to the #DraghiReport. This technology could play a key role in decarbonising hard to abate sectors, such as steel and cement, “where (full) electrification is not feasible”. How can EU industries keep up with other regions? Europe is full of potential. As the recent #DraghiReport states, the EU is a world leader in clean technologies, and the road to net zero could bring economic growth. However, there is a serious risk that this potential will not materialize. This week, ExxonMobil Europe Vice President, EU Affairs, Nikolaas Baeckelmans, addressed industrial competitiveness in Budapest, at a panel discussion organized by AmCham Hungary and Hungarian Investment Promotion Agency - HIPA, with the participation of American Chamber of Commerce to the European Union (AmCham EU). His main points: 🔹 Europe lags other regions in terms of competitiveness. Radical change is needed to help close this gap. 🔹 The energy transition requires supportive public policy, technology advancements, and market-based mechanisms. 🔹 The Draghi report is a good starting point, but it needs to be implemented in the first 100 days of the new legislative term. 🔹 The report highlights the EU’s sustainability reporting and due diligence frameworks as a major source of regulatory burden. 🔹 Industries need a business case – urgently. A competitive EU is a strong EU, ready to face global challenges. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/ge-RsNFT

What could the world’s energy mix look like in 2050? ExxonMobil ’s #GlobalOutlook looks at current trends in energy demand and supply to answer that question. Some key takeaways: The “and equation” -meeting society’s needs for energy and reducing emissions- will remain critical. With around 10 billion people on the planet by 2050, the world will have to find new ways to meet their energy needs. The world needs more solutions. Technology-neutral policies can expand the range of options to advance the energy transition. Low-carbon solutions need policy support to grow rapidly and must ultimately be supported by market forces. Read the Global Outlook here: https://lnkd.in/ea45H_y6

Plastics are essential for modern life, but they come with a challenge: plastic waste. Europe produces more than 30 million* metric tons of post-consumer plastic waste a year, but only 26.9% is recycled, according to Plastics Europe . Europe needs more technology solutions, including chemical recycling, to address this challenge. Complementary to traditional mechanical recycling, chemical recycling can expand the kinds and amount of plastic that can be recycled and repurposed. Learn more about chemical recycling, why mass balance is key to enable this technology, and how we are supporting it: https://lnkd.in/eRXpQT_U

How can we use technology to accelerate the pace of the energy transition? This was the challenge for the finalists of this year’s Sci-Tech challenge, our flagship Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) community initiative in Europe. Each year, secondary school students from across Europe participate in this program, which aims to encourage students to pursue STEM educations. ExxonMobil ’s chemical recycling facility in Baytown, Texas, has the capacity to process up to 40,000 tonnes of plastic waste per year. This technology, complementary to mechanical recycling, can help support a more circular economy by expanding the range of plastics that can be recycled. ExxonMobil is looking at opportunities to bring chemical recycling projects to Europe, including at our facilities in Rotterdam and Antwerp. Find out more about the type of support needed to make these a reality: https://lnkd.in/ewUhDUui

Today we celebrate United Nations World Maritime Day. This year’s theme is “Navigating the future: safety first!”, a slogan which reflects the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) work to enhance maritime safety and security, protect the marine environment, and safely anticipate the fast pace of technological change and innovations. This includes the introduction of alternative fuels and other measures to reduce GHG emissions from ships. Shipping is still the most efficient and cost-effective method of international transportation, carrying more than 90% of all goods that are transported around the world. It also accounts for around 3% of GHG emissions. Find out how marine biofuels could help reduce emissions in this crucial sector: https://lnkd.in/e49JFxty

Hydrogen emits zero greenhouse gases at its point of use. This means it has huge potential for hard to decarbonize sectors such as power generation, heavy transport and heavy industry. Scaling up production of low carbon hydrogen could be key to driving emissions reductions. Policy support, both on the supply and demand sides of the equation, will be crucial to attract the investments required for the energy transition. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/e7KeFdKZ
