🐳 What are the biggest strengths of the EU’s marine environmental laws, and how do they stack up against the weaknesses that remain? 🌱 The EU’s marine ecosystem remains vital for biodiversity, climate regulation, and economic growth. The 2008 Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) has developed ambitious goals to protect these areas put forth through integrated marine strategies and objectives. 🌸 However, the effectiveness of the MSFD has been limited, as its implementation has focused on strategies without establishing robust legal obligations for Member States. 🏗 Why was the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) introduced, and how does it help prevent carbon leakage? The CBAM is designed to address carbon leakage by pricing emissions from carbon-intensive imports like cement, steel, aluminium, fertilisers, electricity, and hydrogen.
