  • Ordering parts with metal 3D printing? Make sure that you know the most important design rules before you get started: 1️⃣ Melting and cooling during production can result in thermally induced stresses. Make sure to take process-specific restrictions into account when designing, like chamfering corners 2️⃣ Generally, the minimum wall thickness is 0.5 or 1 mm, but you should increase that to 2 mm for load-bearing elements 3️⃣ Minimize the contact area between support structures and the component to simplify post-processing Now you’re ready to get started! • “We only apply AM when and where it makes sense, never just for the sake of it.” As far as AM mantras go, this one is pretty hard to beat. The team at Sartorius knows that finding the right application is essential, especially in an industry as highly regulated as biotech. From testing different materials to evaluating technologies before committing to design, their story is full of helpful lessons. https://mtls.am/4dx4Td8

  • Metal 3D printing may seem complicated, but let’s take a closer look at how it works. This laser-based technology uses powdered metals and functions similarly to laser sintering. A high-powered laser selectively binds metal particles to create the part and its support structures. Once the part is built, it’s strengthened by a heat treatment. Then, voila — your part is ready after removing the support. There’s still more to discover about metal 3D printing, like its materials, applications, and more.
