🙌 How can an iconic brutalist building from the 70s step into a greener future? ENSAM in Montpellier is being transformed to meet the demands of today’s climate landscape. Launched by the 🇫🇷 French Ministry of Culture and led by Benoit MAIGNIAL, this renovation faces a delicate challenge: to respect the building’s rich heritage while advancing an eco-friendly transition with new materials and technologies. Key interventions like upgraded glazing, targeted solar protections, reinforced insulation, and 🌬️ night over-ventilation support energy efficiency without compromising the building’s identity. This balanced blend of 🌱 ecological, thermal, and cultural elements makes the project a powerful case study in responsible design. We’re proud to showcase this project, submitted for the latest edition of the 🏆 NEB Prizes, as we believe it can inspire the next generation of architects to see sustainable design as the only path forward. 🙋♀️ Interested in preserving modern heritage through innovative design? 🏚️ What does housing deprivation feel like? Imagine living in a home where basic needs go unmet – no solid walls to keep out the cold, no clean water, no sense of safety. Sounds too extreme? Nearly 4% of the population in Portugal faced these conditions in 2020, according to the Portuguese National Institute of Statistics. Deficient buildings also contribute to 💨 CO2 emissions, as they require excessive amounts of energy to keep warm. 👷That’s where Just a Change steps in. This inspiring team of volunteers brings communities in Portugal 🇵🇹 together to renovate the homes of those most in need. By renovating these homes, they is also make buildings more sustainable and energy efficient. Improved living conditions mean reduced health risks, greater comfort, and, most importantly, a new start for people and neighbourhoods. 👏 That’s why we are so proud to present Just a Change as one of the standout applicants for the 🇪🇺 NEB Prizes 2024. ✨ Make sure you stay tuned for exciting news on the next edition of the NEB Prizes! #NewEuropeanBauhaus #SustainableLiving #AffordableHousing 📷 ©️ Just a Change, 2024.
