  • Gombeys are a cornerstone of Bermuda’s cultural heritage, offering a profound reflection on the island’s history and artistic traditions. The Gombey Festival takes place on October 26, 2024 and celebrates an art form deeply rooted in African, Caribbean, and Native American influences, which has evolved over generations to embody a uniquely Bermudian identity. As we observe Art Month, the Gombey Festival stands as a powerful reminder of the role that art and culture play in shaping Bermuda’s identity. It is an opportunity for Bermudians and visitors alike to connect with and honour this enduring symbol of our history. In September, the Bermuda Tourism Authority Sales Team hit the road, hosting events in Boston, Philadelphia, and New York, connecting directly with Travel Advisors and Planning Professionals to showcase the best of Bermuda. These face-to-face engagements go beyond networking; they’re about building meaningful relationships and providing the firsthand insights these professionals need to confidently recommend Bermuda as a premier destination. Our efforts are part of a larger mission—aligning with the National Tourism Plan to grow Bermuda’s MICE sector. By actively engaging with industry leaders in key markets, we’re ensuring Bermuda remains top of mind for groups seeking a blend of natural beauty, modern amenities, and unique cultural experiences that make for truly unforgettable events. What's next: This week, our sales team will be joined by our CEO Tracy Berkeley, CDME and stakeholder partners as we continue promoting Bermuda as a first-choice for meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) IMEX America 2024. • At the BTA, we believe that the heart of a destination lies in its culture, heritage, and people. This month, we’re proud to shine a spotlight on Bermuda’s second-annual Art Month, a celebration that brings our island’s vibrant creative spirit to the forefront of the visitor experience. Through immersive exhibitions, street art and live performances, Art Month showcases the dynamic artistic talent that enriches Bermuda’s cultural fabric—and aligns seamlessly with our National Tourism Plan. The National Tourism Plan is built on the pillars of sustainability, innovation, and community engagement. Art Month exemplifies these principles, creating opportunities for visitors to engage deeply with our local artists while fostering cultural exchanges that go beyond traditional tourism experiences. Through this month-long event, we invite travellers to see Bermuda not just as a beautiful island but as a thriving artistic hub where creativity flourishes year-round. One of the key goals of the National Tourism Plan is to deliver memorable, high-quality experiences for our visitors. Art Month offers precisely that—unique, authentic encounters that bring the island’s history and modernity together through the lens of art. Whether it's a visit to a local gallery, a hands-on workshop with Bermudian artisans, or experiencing our lively public art displays, Art Month transforms Bermuda into an open-air gallery. In addition to enhancing the visitor experience, Bermuda Art Month contributes to our commitment to supporting local businesses and artisans. The National Tourism Plan emphasizes the importance of investing in our community, and Art Month serves as a platform for Bermudian artists to showcase their talent on a global stage. It fosters an inclusive environment where artists, residents, and visitors can come together to celebrate our island’s cultural legacy. By promoting local creators and their work, we strengthen Bermuda’s creative economy and encourage sustainable growth within our tourism sector. The ripple effect extends beyond just the arts—hotels, restaurants, and small businesses all benefit from the increased visibility and foot traffic that Art Month generates. As we continue to innovate and look toward the future, Art Month represents a key initiative that diversifies our tourism offerings while maintaining a deep connection to Bermuda’s heritage. It allows us to highlight the island’s unique cultural assets, providing a platform for responsible tourism that honours our past while looking toward the future. Plein Air Art
