Another great business visit at EduMais! This time we welcomed Levi Costa, FSSC director at our trusted partner Airswift. Levi visited EduMais not only to get to know the location and our work, but he also gave a very interesting class about the cost structure in the business model canvas. Great for our students who are thinking about entrepreneurship! One thing is to learn from books, another from people that are also practicing the theory on a daily basis. With Levi also being a naturally engaging and compassionate teacher, this visit was a great success. Giving our students the opportunity to learn from & engage with people at companies (encounters that don't often happen naturally in the socioeconomic environment of our students) makes the difference. Thank you Levi Costa and Airswift! PS. Reading this and want to partner up with EduMais as well? Send us a DM!

We're happy to announce a new partnership: with Compagnie Maritime Monégasque (CMM)! Compagnie Maritime Monégasque (CMM) has been supporting EduMais financially since earlier this year, and we are going to develop further collaboration to create jobs & internships for our students! 🤩 We were very pleased with the fruitful visit by Christophe Vancauwenbergh & BRUNO AZEVEDO from CMM, who were joined by the Consul General of Belgium in Rio de Janeiro, Caroline Mouchart. We look forward to strengthening this cooperation! And are you reading this and thinking: "my company could also support EduMais, financially and / or with opportunities?". Please get in contact! We're always looking for organisations that support our programs or can help our students with mock interviews, internships and more. Send us a DM 📩 Diana Nijboer Izabely Albuquerque

Volunteer spotlight: Meet Jacob Delorme! Jake is our volunteer who writes & sends out our newsletter every month (together with Jan Willem Zeldenrust). Get to know him in this mini interview: Tell us something about yourself, Jake! "I am 27 years old, half French and half British, living in London. I love football and music, and spending time with my friends and family. I recently started running, and my aim is to complete a marathon in the next year!" What motivated you to volunteer for EduMais? "During the pandemic, in 2020, my friend shared a post from EduMais saying that they were looking for an office volunteer. I am passionate about the power of equal access to education, so I asked my friend to put me in contact. I spoke to Diana, and it seemed like the perfect fit. When I moved to London for my studies, I wanted to stay involved with EduMais, so I continued to work on the newsletter! Somehow I've still never made it to EduMais in person, but I'm hoping to change that soon!" What would you say to someone who is doubting about the choice to volunteer for EduMais? "Do it! EduMais is such a great organisation! Not only is the work we do incredibly important, creating incredible opportunities and having a huge impact, everybody at EduMais is friendly. You won't regret it." ➡️ And the monthly newsletter just got sent out - in case you missed it, sign up for the next one with the link in the comments! #ngo #education #riodejaneiro EduMais

✨ Last Friday, EduMais had the incredible honor of welcoming the Director of International Policy at the Dutch Ministry of Education, Gerbert Kunst, and a delegation of the embassy and consulate! 🌍 During their visit, we shared our mission, vision, methodology, programs, and the impact we’re making on children and youth living in underprivileged circumstances. We also discussed how our work aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). 🙌 A highlight of the visit was the chance for them to meet three of our amazing ambassadors: Thais Custódio Marques, Izabely Albuquerque, and Ana Clara Reis. These remarkable young women, once students in our programs, now hold paid positions as coordinators of various initiatives. Their stories are a testament to the power of education and opportunity. 💪 The visit was an inspiring exchange for both sides, and we look forward to exploring ways we can continue to support and learn from each other in the future. 🤝 Thank you Nina Bode, Ernst-Jan Bakker & Micha Schijlen for making this visit possible! Celebrating an inspiring visit to Airswift by all of our students, and it was truly a game-changer! 🚀 For over 40 years, Airswift has been transforming lives through the provision of international workforce solutions to STEM industries. Today, they are an integrated team of 800 employees, 60 offices, and over 7,000 contractors. This incredible experience not only prepared our students for the job market but also opened their eyes to new possibilities in the professional world. The students were particularly impressed by the global reach of Airswift and how effectively they connect professionals with opportunities across the world. They also appreciated the emphasis on career development, which resonated deeply with their aspirations to grow and learn continuously. Many students highlighted how the visit reinforced their understanding of the importance of networking, technology adaptation, and maintaining an entrepreneurial mindset, even within large organizations. They left inspired by the idea that career success involves ongoing learning, creativity, and strategic thinking. Here’s what some of our students had to say: 🗣️ “This visit made me more conscious of what I can do in the future with the talents that I have, which of course is a huge advantage in the labour market.” 🗣️ “The visit to Airswift was a unique opportunity, which for me, revealed possibilities that I never considered before.” A huge thank you to Airswift for facilitating this visit and for having us! 🌟 ➡️ We’re on the lookout for more companies in Rio de Janeiro that would like to partner with us for similar visits. If you’re interested in offering our students an opportunity to explore the professional world and inspire their future careers, please get in touch! Thank you for the incredibly inspiring visit Airswift! Visiting your office and learning how to present themselves to potential employers meant a lot to our students 🙌🏼
As Fernanda NEGRÃO always reminds us, our mission at Airswift is: To transform lives through the world of work. And transforming lives through education is, above all, a profoundly human endeavor! Last week, the Airswift office in Rio de Janeiro welcomed 15 young students from the EduMais to give them an inside look at how different sectors of a company operate, the importance of HR, the roles within various Finance departments, how our Service area functions, and, of course, the intricacies of recruitment. Additionally, they learned how to create a CV, set up a LinkedIn profile, and how to present themselves in job interviews. Helping to organize this event and seeing those eager faces ready to learn was more than just a professional mission—it was a reminder that making a difference in someone’s life is truly rewarding! Thank you, Airswift, for this opportunity, and thank you, EDUMAIS, for making this possible! #weareairswift #transformlifes

🌎 Can you recall the impact of your first international experience? The excitement, the nerves? 🌍 Ana Clara, a 19-year old student from the Pavão-Pavãozinho and Cantagalo favela in Copacabana, had such an experience through an EduMais project. At just 11 years old, she traveled to Poland, where she discovered her passion and purpose: to become a sociologist. As Ana Clara continues her journey, she’s eager to connect with professionals who can support her career aspirations. If you believe you can offer guidance, mentorship, or opportunities to help Ana Clara achieve her dream, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Let’s work together to empower the next generation!
