We are immensely proud to be honored at the Brazil Investment Forum - BIF 24 as one of the most significant investments made in Brazil by foreign companies. This prestigious recognition underscores our unwavering commitment to enduring sustainable #progress and #innovation, perfectly aligning with the evolving Brazilian business environment that fosters resilient development. Our CEO and co-founder, Marcos Vinícius B. Peigo, participated in the ceremony and highlighted the transformative momentum in the data center sector. With demand growing three to sevenfold, latency no longer an obstacle, and Brazil’s abundant supply of renewable energy, the country has a remarkable opportunity to become one of the world’s largest hubs for artificial intelligence processing. He pointed out that while the United States currently faces an energy shortage of 6 to 8 gigawatts, Brazil has close to 10 gigawatts ready in its transmission and distribution grids and an additional 2 to 4 gigawatts of renewable generation projects in excess of demand. These factors strategically position Brazil to export energy through high-value-added data center services. Peigo emphasized Scala Data Centers’ substantial #investment in Brazil, driven by the increasing demand for digital infrastructure. The company, which has already invested 10 billion reais in the country, announced today an additional commitment of 27 billion reais, with potential growth to 50 billion reais to support its business plan for the 2025-2030 period, focusing on local cloud and AI workloads, excluding the separate Scala AI City investments, which aim to serve international AI workloads. With a unique window of opportunity, the next nine months will be pivotal in establishing Brazil as a leader in green artificial intelligence infrastructure. Peigo noted that if artificial intelligence regulation progresses as anticipated, the Brazilian market could grow from 800 megawatts to 3.5 gigawatts. Should Brazil open its doors to international data processing, this market could expand further to 11 gigawatts. Scala Data Centers’ vision and substantial investments reinforce Brazil’s global standing and pave the way for a more #sustainable and technologically advanced future. We are thrilled to announce that Scala Data Centers has been awarded Digital Infrastructure/Telecom Financing of the Year at the LatinFinance Awards! This prestigious award highlights the best in capital markets and financial transactions across Latin America. Our recognition comes from the successful green debenture issuance worth R$1.073 billion (US$ 215 million) in 2023, which, at the time, was the second-largest of its kind in Brazil, only behind another Scala issuance. This financing supported the construction of Hyperscale data centers operating with 100% renewable energy, maximum efficiency, and carbon neutrality. In 2024, Scala raised R$1.37 billion (US$ 250 million) through a new green debenture, now the largest ever in Brazil, aimed at building the SGRUTB09 data center. This reinforces our non-negotiable commitment to sustainability and innovation. Tomorrow, another edition of the Scala Vendors Day is happening, and we're excited to welcome our partners in São Paulo! But before that, let's take a moment to look back at the first-ever Vendors Day Scala held earlier this year in Chile. It marked a significant milestone for the company in Latin America, bringing together over 70 participants, including key partners, to align on crucial Health, Safety, and Environment (EHS) strategies and reinforcing our commitment to excellence. During the event, Scala’s leaders presented robust EHS guidelines and emphasized the importance of adhering to Chilean environmental regulations, reinforcing Scala's unwavering commitment to compliance and sustainability. In addition to the #EHS team, the event featured active participation from teams specializing in #ESG / #Sustainability, #Compliance, and #Operations, reflecting a collaborative approach to maintaining a safe, compliant, and efficient work environment. Lucas Suassuna Neto, VP of Engineering and Construction, shared his thoughts on the importance of aligning Scala's values with those of its vendors: "I’m very happy with the participation of our vendors and the involvement of the entire Scala team. Ultimately, our goal is for everyone working with us to be aligned with our values, particularly in terms of EHS and ESG." Christiana Weisshuhn, Senior Communications and ESG Program Director, highlighted the importance of enhancing communication and engagement: “This is a great opportunity to strengthen Scala’s message with local teams. We aim to foster greater interaction, not only among Scalers but also with the community in which we are embedded.” Other Scala leaders also shared their insights. At the DCD Connect Cancún 2024, Scala Data Centers took center stage once again with Franciele Nogueira Ferreira Rosa, our Design Engineering Director, moderating the debate “Breaking Barriers: the truth about Liquid Cooling and Direct-to-Chip Cooling.” As #AI applications push the boundaries of computing power, liquid cooling and direct-to-chip cooling have emerged as key solutions for tackling the challenges of overheating and improving energy #efficiency. The debate focused on how these advanced cooling techniques not only enhance data center performance but also reduce energy consumption and minimize environmental impact, which aligns perfectly with Scala's commitment to sustainability. “One of the key strengths Scala has demonstrated in implementing cooling systems for high-density data centers is its ability to customize solutions to meet the specific needs of each client. As a colocation provider, we focus on adapting to the unique technical and operational requirements provided by our clients, ensuring that every cooling and electrical solution is perfectly suited to their infrastructure. In addition, Scala has excelled in designing hybrid solutions that efficiently manage both high-density racks and network racks with lower demand, allowing seamless scalability and energy efficiency without compromising performance," Franciele shared during the discussion.
