Building on the momentum of the recently completed $300 million, four-year upgrade of the Nassau Cruise Port at Prince George Wharf, this initiative seeks to rejuvenate a pivotal area of Nassau. The plan focuses on a comprehensive approach to revitalization, encompassing housing, public spaces, waterfront access, education, transportation, economic development, and infrastructure. Additionally, a key aspect of this redevelopment is the enhancement of the tourist experience, aiming to create a vibrant and sustainable urban environment that benefits both residents and visitors alike. Recent Developments The Charles Town Corridor, encompassing Bay Street, East Street North, Dowdeswell Street, and extending to the Sir Sidney Poitier Bridge, has become a focal point of both public and private investment. A key highlight is the $300 million Nassau Cruise Port project, which includes the addition of a new berth, along with the refurbishment and repair of all existing piers. As a result, Nassau Cruise Port now has the capacity to accommodate six cruise ships per day, including three of the massive Icon or Oasis-class vessels. This expansion has significantly increased the port's capacity, raising the number of daily cruise passengers from 20,000 to over 30,000. By the end of 2024, Nassau is expected to welcome approximately seven million cruise visitors. The Charles Town Redevelopment Plan seizes this momentum, offering a vital opportunity to engage the local community in shaping the future of this historic area. The plan aims to balance the needs and aspirations of residents with the expectations of an increasing number of tourists, ensuring a sustainable and vibrant environment for all.
