We’re searching for 17 children and youth who are tackling climate challenges and making a difference! This is your chance to be recognized as a District Climate Champion at the Botswana Local Conference of Youth on Climate Change. This is your opportunity to contribute, learn, and lead in the global climate movement. Objectives of LCOY Botswana 2024 🟢 Expand Youth Participation: Engage youth from various communities in climate governance and programming. 🟢 Enhance Leadership and Advocacy: Develop youth capacities for climate leadership and advocacy. 🟢 Amplify Youth Voices: Integrate youth perspectives in national climate policy formulation and global climate discussions. 🟢 Facilitate Networking: Provide a platform for youth climate activists, ecopreneurs, and environmental enthusiasts to network and collaborate. 🚨 NEWS || ARB Verdict: TotalEnergies Caught Misleading on Sustainability Commitment On August 21, 2024, the South African Advertising Regulatory Board (ARB) made a pivotal ruling against TotalEnergies, finding their "sustainable development" claim in a partnership with SANParks misleading. The decision followed South Africa's first-ever greenwashing complaint, brought forward by the Fossil Free South Africa through its Fossil Ad Ban campaign. 💬 Why It Matters: TotalEnergies' core business in fossil fuels directly contradicts the principles of sustainable development. While their support for SANParks spans over 60 years, the ARB emphasised that their broader sustainability claim was deceptive. This ruling sets a critical precedent, affirming that companies can't hide harmful environmental practices behind misleading ads. 🌍 "This is a win for sustainability integrity and consumer protection," said Lazola Kati, Campaign Manager for Fossil Ad Ban. Clean Creatives South Africa also applauded the decision, stressing that it sends a strong message to fossil fuel companies and the advertising agencies supporting them. 🛑 What’s Next? Fossil Ad Ban urges PR and advertising companies to stop aiding greenwashing efforts by fossil fuel companies.
