Youth trafficking in York Region is a serious issue, though comprehensive local statistics are sometimes challenging to find due to the covert nature of the crime. However, here are some key insights: Human Trafficking Incidents: York Regional Police (YRP) has identified that a significant portion of human trafficking cases in Ontario occur in York Region, largely due to its proximity to major highways like the 400, 404, and 407, which traffickers use for transportation. Youth Victims: The majority of human trafficking victims in Ontario are Canadian citizens, and most are young women and girls between 13 and 24 years old. In York Region, victims are often recruited from local schools or social media platforms. Sex Trafficking: Around 93% of human trafficking cases reported in Ontario are related to sex trafficking. York Region, particularly along Highway 7, has been identified as a corridor for these activities, with traffickers exploiting young individuals for profit. Increased Reports: The YRP has seen a steady increase in human trafficking reports, with about 50 to 60 cases annually involving youth victims. These numbers may reflect only a fraction of the actual occurrences, as many cases go unreported due to fear, manipulation, or lack of awareness. Prevention and Support: Organizations like 360°kids, located in York Region, work with local authorities and schools to raise awareness and support victims of youth trafficking. We emphasize the need for more community education and early intervention programs to prevent exploitation. If you would like to support the great work that we do at 360kids, please reach out to me. There are many ways the community can get involved. Remember: Conversations, Education and Awareness are just a few of the ways we can help prevent such vile activities.

On Sunday, September 15th, 360°kids was honored to bring together 116 compassionate individuals at Oakview Terrace for our 3rd Annual DigniTea event in support of the 360°kids HOPE Program. Their participation not only made the event a success but also helped raise critical awareness about the fight against human trafficking in our community. The 360°kids HOPE Program provides essential services for survivors of human trafficking, including safe housing, counseling, life skills training, and personalized care. These resources are designed to support survivors in healing from trauma, rebuilding their lives, and reclaiming their futures. Human trafficking remains a heartbreaking reality for too many youth in York Region, but thanks to the generosity and dedication of our supporters, we are making real progress in the fight for hope, healing, and empowerment for survivors. Together, we are shining a light on an issue that too often remains in the shadows. A heartfelt thank you to our wonderful sponsors and vendors who made this day truly unforgettable. Your support means the world to us! 🌟 #DigniTea2024 #SupportSurvivors #HOPEProgram #CommunityImpact #HumanTraffickingAwareness #Gratitude

Empowering our younger generation is something I have done for over a decade. At 360kids we are doing just that. Empowering our younger generation to understand the world we live in and how they can have a lasting positive impact on their communities. This is my everyday mission. If you know of a youth interested in joining our Youth Ambassador Program that supports at-risk youth, have them reach out to me. shanta.sundarason@360kids.ca
