Airtightness and compartmentalization are crucial. Participants got to dive deep into the challenges and solutions at the Gotta Keep 'Em Separated – Compartmentalization for Multi-Family session. Moderated by Lynne J Strickland and Andrew Oding, with insights from Mark Rosen and Michal Bartko, we got an inside look at how to achieve airtightness in multi-family construction. 🛠️ #NetZeroLeadershipSummit #NZLS2024 #MultiFamilyHousing #Airtightness

Our Net Zero Energy Advisors attended the CHBA Net Zero Leadership Summit this week in Richmond, which included a Local Energy Efficiency Partnerships (LEEP) session from Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) on their new heat pump sizing tool. We had the pleasure of joining our Net Zero builders Avalon Master Builder and Landmark Homes on-stage for the knowledge dissemination of the "Affordable, Replicable, and Marketable Net Zero Ready MURBs" Project (2019-2024), and discussions on compartmentalization for multi-family units. Thank you CHBA Net Zero for the engaging presentations and the opportunity to connect with fellow Net Zero leaders from across the country. #NZLeadershipSummit #NZLS2024

We had a great time talking about high-performance buildings and #EnergyEfficiency last night at the Kimberley & District Chamber of Commerce’s Community Sustainability, Technology and Innovation Fair. It was great to be a part of the East Kootenay Climate Hub’s buildings table and to engage with the community on high-efficiency buildings. Bob McDonald motivated us with his talk about technology solutions to the climate crisis and his new book, “The Future is Now: Solving the Climate Crisis with Today’s Technology”. Thanks to everyone who came out and thank you to the event’s organizers for this community-building event.

One of the benefits of a #DeepEnergyRetrofit is that you can have a home with great comfort and performance, while not having to move out during construction. Building a new infill home will have you out of your home renting for 10+ months. Also, there are large #EmbodiedCarbon savings from reusing most of your home, rather than demolishing it to build new. This figure shows the carbon savings of a DER compared to new builds. Words of wisdom about #DeepEnergyRetrofits from our latest blog post: “if you’re going to touch it, make it right” and “if making it right doesn’t fit the budget, don’t touch it”. Don’t just renovate to the current code, upgrade the entire assembly to what will be needed in 2050 to make it #FutureProof. Anything less will lock in inefficiency for the lifespan of the upgrade. It is hard to learn that you don’t have the budget to do everything you wanted, but don’t take a shortcut and lock in poor performance with half measures. Read more at https://lnkd.in/g8xUW2Zi to learn more about DERs and phased high-performance renovation approaches. #SmartSustainableResilient #Construction #LessonsLearned #HomeRenovation

NEW BLOG POST ALERT! Continuing the #DeepEnergyRetrofit experience, see our newest posting: Part 3 – Construction Lessons Learned. Read about our key takeaways from the construction of three DERs, including DER project viability, making it right, staying flexible, and permitting requirements. Some houses are MUCH easier to retrofit than others, read the blog to learn which criteria added considerable complexity to the DER process. https://lnkd.in/g8xUW2Zi with lots more to learn at SSRIA.CA #SmartSustainableResilient #Construction #LessonsLearned #HomeRenovation
