🌟 Member Highlight 🌟 The Philadelphia Eagles are pioneering the Go Green initiative. Their latest feat involves being the first North American sports team to use a hydrogen refuelling station powered by solar panels, emitting only water vapor. 🌊 They offset team travel by planting seagrass, known for absorbing carbon efficiently. In 2021 alone, they planted three acres, offsetting over 456 metric tons of CO2. The Eagles also obtained ISO 20121 certification for integrating sustainability into management practices. 🏟️ Lincoln Financial Field, with 10,456 solar panels, is LEED Gold-certified, diverting over 90% of waste from landfills. Initiatives include a closed-loop recycling program, turning plastic products into new materials. 🤝 Partnerships with organizations like Aramark and Braskem enhance their sustainability goals. Fans contribute too, using rain ponchos made from sugarcane ethanol. 📝 Take-home point: Brands are mismanaging their sports sponsorships 📝 This report by the WFA points out that the companies they surveyed (with global adspend of US$53 billion) are: 1. Not sufficiently tracking ROI for their sports sponsorships - with 20% spending nothing at all on analyzing ROI; 2. Neglecting activations of their sponsorships - with 43% saying they "don't know what they're spending" on activations; 3. Interesting, and perhaps not surprising, insight into the lack of robust management and measure of sponsorships. There are plenty of brands who take a considered and structured approach to understanding ROI, but equally, too many for whom sponsorship is a whim, rather than a platform that can drive deep and lasting brand engagement. And, interestingly, the majority of brands in the survey highlighted the challenge of fully measuring the impact of their actions - with brands spending 1% or less on measurement, and 20% spending nothing at all.
