Kristin shares very important information about Craniofacial Acceptance Month and how those with facial differences are often negatively impacted in the workplace. Our work continues in hopes of breaking the stigma and barriers that people with facial differences experience in the workplace and all facets of society.
September is Craniofacial Acceptance month. While you may not work with someone with a facial anomaly like mine, please be respectful of all those with visible differences and disabilities. Many of us have endured more in our lives than we will ever let on. Thanks to AboutFace for providing the stats below on how people with facial differences may be negatively impacted in the workplace.

We are excited to launch a new story as part of our My Difference Should Make No Difference campaign. Introducing Jill, an experienced nurse who despite providing years of life-saving hospital care, still experiences discrimination in the workplace because of her facial difference. Did you know that although three in five people with a facial difference report having been negatively impacted at work, most DEI policies are not inclusive of facial differences? To read more of Jill’s story, visit https://bit.ly/4eawkJV and keep an eye on our social media channels for information about our next HR webinar in October! #FacialDifference #NoDifference #Diversity #Equity #Inclusion #DEI

Welcome to a special What is it Wednesday! This month, in honour of Craniofacial Acceptance Month, we’re answering the question: what is a craniofacial difference? A craniofacial difference refers to a difference in the formation of the skull, face, soft tissues, or bones. Like other facial differences, a craniofacial difference can be congenital or acquired from illness or trauma/accidents. A craniofacial difference is a type of facial difference that affects the structure of the face or head. Share this post to educate your networks about Craniofacial Acceptance Month! Visit aboutface.ca for more information on all facial differences. #FacialDifference #CraniofacialAcceptanceMonth #Craniofacial #Face #Education #Learn #September

Have you read Ross's story yet? Ross Piel knows first-hand that people with a facial difference experience discrimination, teasing, and inappropriate comments regularly. Yet most employers don’t put any specific protections and supports in place. Ross's story is part of our My Difference Should Make No Difference campaign, which helps highlight what people with facial differences would like to see change in workplaces. To learn more about creating an equitable and understanding workplace, read Ross's story here: https://ow.ly/fBIn50SWjfQ #NoDifference #FacialDifference

“AboutFace works with communities, various stakeholders, and individuals to reduce stereotypes and biases, helping those with facial differences by educating all of us on the barriers that they experience. Above all, AboutFace brings people together,” says AboutFace Board member, Amarjit. Finding community is vital for people from marginalized communities, or with unique health concerns such as having a facial difference. Nonprofits often are that community. They offer hope, healing, a sense of belonging, support, and resources that may be difficult to find otherwise. Nonprofits are the cornerstone of communities around the world. Today is National Nonprofit Day, where we recognize the incredibly important work that nonprofits do, and the plight that they are experiencing due to the economic downturn. According to the CanadaHelps 2024 Giving Report, “More than half of charities are unable to meet current levels of demand, which speaks to the gap between the growing challenges charities face and their ability to provide support.” We are incredibly grateful for our community and donors. Your support directly impacts our critical work and the programs and resources we offer. Help ensure that these crucial educational programs, resources, and support for the facial difference community can continue by donating today here: https://bit.ly/2ZlGfvF #NationalNonprofitDay #Nonprofit #FacialDifference #Donate #Support
