The Livable Cities Forum 2024 organized by ICLEI and attended by our Sustainability Analyst Cameron McGlade, was a fantastic event filled with meaningful discussions and connections. A huge thank you to all the presenters for sharing your expertise! A highlight for Cameron was the “Net-Zero Insights: A Spotlight on Low-Carbon Development in Vancouver” session, where they explored leading-edge projects shaping Vancouver’s low-carbon future. The immersive session gave us an opportunity to explore some exceptional projects: the Sen̓áḵw carbon-neutral development by the Squamish Nation, Cadillac Fairview’s geoexchange system at 777 Dunsmuir, and Creative Energy’s district energy operations in Vancouver’s downtown. We’re excited to see projects like these laying the groundwork for sustainable urban development!

Are you a building owner in #Edmonton? Looking to install #energyefficient #retrofits for your building? The City of Edmonton has just launched the Clean Energy Improvement Program (CEIP), a game-changer for financing energy upgrades in residential, commercial, and multi-unit residential buildings. 👉 With CEIP, you can finance up to 100% of the cost of energy retrofits—whether it’s replacing windows, adding insulation, or installing solar PVs—at competitive interest rates (3.16%-6%). 👉 Repayment is conveniently added to your property’s tax bill over a term of up to 20 years. Plus, if you sell the property, the financing transfers to the new owner. 👉 Residential property owners can access up to $50K, while commercial owners can qualify for up to $1M, with larger projects potentially eligible for more. 🤔 Why retrofit? 💡Energy-efficient upgrades can significantly enhance your building’s financial performance, reducing operational costs, boosting property value, and yielding higher rental rates. 💡High-quality retrofits also enhance the indoor environment, leading to greater occupant comfort and better air quality—benefits that justify competitive leasing rates, also improving tenant retention and long-term competitiveness. 💡Retrofits are becoming a necessity rather than a choice, with evolving regulations and compliance requirements across North America. By investing in these upgrades, you're not only meeting regulatory demands but also improving building performance, managing risk, and future-proofing your property. Ready to take the next step? Visit Alberta Municipalities' website at myceip.ca to learn more and apply. Does your city or province also offer similar programs? Let us know in the comments. #BuildCircular #Retrofits #Alberta #Edmonton #CEIP #Decarbonization

Yesterday, our CTO Aida Mollaei had the opportunity to participate in two insightful panels at #BUILDEX Alberta, exploring the future of #sustainability in the #builtenvironment and the potential of #circularconstruction practices. In the "Sustainability in the Built Environment" panel, Aida joined an incredible group of experts, including Lisa (Ledcor Industries Inc), Luke Staniscia (Brookfield Residential, Jeff Lyness (METAFOR), and Ervina Hendra (Calgary Housing), to discuss sustainable strategies and innovations shaping the industry. Later, in the "Circular Construction" panel, Aida shared the stage with Audrina Lim (Chandos Construction) to address the importance of minimizing construction and demolition waste through circular practices, emphasizing the need for responsible material management. A big thank you to all the panelists for the engaging discussions and valuable insights! We'd also like to thank Buildings Canada for organizing this productive and engaging event. #BUILDEXAlberta #BuildCircular #SustainableConstruction #CircularConstruction

💡 Did you know that embodied carbon—pollution from producing building #materials and #construction—accounts for about 11% of global emissions and up to 50% of a building's #lifecycle #emissions? ⚡ As energy efficiency improves and grids get cleaner, this percentage will only rise. According to WGBC, by 2050, half of the #CarbonFootprint of new construction will come from embodied carbon if no action is taken. 🌍 Why should building owners care? ◾ Reducing #EmbodiedCarbon is key to meeting #ClimateGoals and addressing #Scope3 emissions. ◾It also offers business advantages like attracting investments and preparing for future regulations. ◾ Reducing embodied carbon isn’t just about sustainability—it can also cut development costs and improve marketability. Taking strategic action now positions developers for long-term profitability. 📑 RMI has published an interesting guide (https://lnkd.in/g3i95rg9) outlining 9 investments to #Reduce embodied carbon and build business value in #Commercial #RealEstate. These strategies aim to: ➡ Increase portfolio profitability per unit of embodied carbon. ➡ Accelerate the shift to low-carbon materials. ➡ Combine actions to maximize both carbon reduction and profits. At Adaptis, we’re ready to help implement these strategies and accelerate your journey to #decarbonization. We help building owners optimize carbon and cost-benefit across a building's entire lifecycle, from design to end-of-life. Let’s talk! #BuildCircular #EmbodiedCarbon #Scope3 #Scope3Emissions #SustainableConstruction #Decarbonization #Construction

It's an honour to be named part of Canada's Clean50, and be amongst established and distinguished individuals, focused on moving the needle on climate change. As I got to meet multiple diverse leaders in one room, the sentiment was clear, this is not a recognition but an opportunity to escalate our call to action. The way forward is not only to aspire to become sustainable, but to become a circular, resilient society, prepared for adaptation - so we can not just survive but thrive. I dedicate this award to my amazing team Adaptis for their passion and dedication to building a circular future. Special thanks to Gavin Pitchford and Delta Management Group - founders of Canada's Clean50 Awards. #BuildCircular #ClimateAction #CircularEconomy

Are you a building owner or a builder in #Toronto or #Vancouver? Did you know about the Zero Emission Building Policies? 💡The City of Toronto and City of Vancouver are leading the charge against climate change by implementing #ZeroEmissionBuilding (ZEB) policies targeting drastic emission reductions from buildings in the coming years. #ZEBs are designed to produce as much renewable energy as they consume over a year, creating a balanced energy footprint and minimizing their environmental impact throughout the building’s entire #lifecycle, from construction and daily operations, to end-of-life. 💡For builders, this shift toward ZEBs requires adopting innovative methods, sustainable materials, and aligning projects with strict emission reduction targets to meet the evolving regulations. See below for a quick breakdown of each city’s approach 👇 🤔Curious to know what you can do to transform your building to a Zero Emission Building? Have questions about compliance? Talk to us. Drop a comment below! #BuildCircular #ZEB #NetZeroEmissions #NetZeroBuildings #EmbodiedCarbon #OperationalCarbon #SustainableConstruction
