Our mandate is "To provide leadership, as a catalyst, to link existing capabilities and resources in order to strengthen the bioeconomy industry in Saskatchewan." Since 1989, we have been helping move research to market and grow biobusiness in the province. Our technology commercialization fund assists early stage companies. Ag-West Bio initiatives help increase capacity in research and commercialization for Saskatchewan's bioscience / agri-food sector. Our events help the bioscience community stay connected and informed. Ag-West Bio also participates with like-minded associations from across Canada in creating awareness of the bioscience industry. He’s been called the Father of Canola. In fact, Jay Whetter and Toban Dyck called Keith Downey that when they interviewed him for Episode 3 of The Extensionists, dropping Oct. 29. Despite turning 98 soon, Keith’s sharp recollections make this an unforgettable conversation. He’s one of Canada’s most renowned plant scientists, Keith Downey. Back in the ‘60s and ‘70s, while working with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada in Saskatoon, Keith was instrumental in creating the crop we now know as canola – Canada’s most valuable crop. Jay, Toban and Keith discuss canola breeding, the foundational work done by scientists before canola existed, and a key moment involving oilseeds processor J. Gordon Ross, who wouldn't take "no" for an answer. Can Canada have another “canola” moment – a crop that transforms the agricultural landscape? Listen next week to hear Keith’s inspiring story about innovation and collaboration. Listen to The Extensionists wherever you get your podcasts. Share, rate, and leave a comment to help grow our audience. 🙏 A big thank you to SaskOilseeds for sponsoring this episode! https://lnkd.in/gwC238aA #TheExtensionists #FarmersVoices #AgricultureInnovation #AgCommunity
