Since 2023, thousands of honey bees have found a home in our rooftop hives at the Jonathan Town Club, pollinating both our urban garden and the surrounding neighborhood. We’re passionate about advancing the green city movement, fostering urban biodiversity and strengthening our community’s connection to nature - taking every chance to engage our members along the way. Happy #NationalHoneyBeeDay! 🐝 We are proud to partner with Alvéole to maintain 10 honey bee hives and 2 wild bee homes throughout the Rockhill portfolio. With approximately 50,000 bees per hive, we’ve got a lot to buzz about! These bee programs use nature-based solutions to support urban biodiversity and connect our teams and tenants to the environment. 🌎

We are thrilled to share an update on our latest endeavor to support nature, sustainability, and community! We’ve partnered with Alvéole to place a honey beehive on the wetlands at our Wood Village Shopping Center in Wood Village, OR. Bees are incredible creatures that spark environmental education and help people feel more connected to nature, igniting a passion to protect it. After a few months of nurturing the hive, we hosted an environmental education workshop, "The Wonders of Beeswax," for underserved communities in partnership with The City of Wood Village. Watching the joy and curiosity on the participants' faces as they learned about the wonders of bees was inspiring for our team. Being able to participate in such local initiatives not only allows us to stay connected to the communities we serve but also reinforces our core value of Authentic Community – reinforcing our commitment to building and nurturing relationships through sincere interactions. In 2023, Alvéole honey bees pollinated over 175 different plant species! From buttercups to magnolias, from muskmelon to chestnut trees, these gals have seen it all. How do we know which flowers our bees were pollinating? It’s all thanks to eDNA testing. By analyzing their honey, we can see exactly which flowers they collected the pollen and nectar from. Science is pretty incredible, huh? __ En 2023, les abeilles à miel d'Alvéole ont pollinisé plus de 175 espèces de plantes différentes ! Des boutons d'or aux magnolias, des melons musqués aux châtaigniers, ces demoiselles ont tout vu. Comment savons-nous quelles fleurs nos abeilles ont pollinisées ? Tout cela grâce aux tests d'ADN environnemental (eDNA). En analysant leur miel, nous pouvons voir exactement de quelles fleurs elles ont collecté le pollen et le nectar. La science est vraiment incroyable, non ?
