  • This October, in partnership with the Ontario Community Support Association (OCSA), we are excited to celebrate #CommunitySupportMonth and honour the dedicated staff and volunteers who provide essential support throughout the province. On #RespiteServicesDay, we want to highlight “The Social,” our 3-hour recreation program hosted 4 times a week for individuals with early to mid-stage dementia. This program not only promotes the social and emotional well-being of our clients but also provides a crucial 3-hour respite for their care partners. During this time, caregivers can enjoy a much-needed break, knowing their loved ones are in good hands and engaged in meaningful activities. Respite services are vital for care partners, offering them short periods of relief from their caregiving responsibilities. This support helps prevent caregiver burnout and allows them to recharge, ensuring they can continue to provide the best care possible. To learn more about The Social, please contact us at 905-567-2567 or email information@alzheimerdurham.com. #CSM2024

  • We’d like to take a moment to shine a spotlight on our October #VolunteerOfTheMonth, Sara! Since joining us at ASDR in May 2023, she has made a tremendous impact. There are lots of thing Sara loves about volunteering. “What I always come back to are the connections and interactions we have with the people we serve. It sounds simple, but I smile and laugh every time I volunteer. It truly is amazing and extremely rewarding! Their stories, perspectives, and gratitude bring me a sense of purpose." Sara dedicates her time to supporting both clients and staff, actively engaging in programming and activities at The Social and Brain Waves Café. She also lends her expertise by providing occasional coverage in other programs. She has built countless connections with our clients, and we always look forward to having her with us! A heartfelt thank you to Sara and all our volunteers. You are the heart of what we do, and the programs and services we offer wouldn’t be possible without your dedication and support. 💙 #VolunteerWithUs #AlzheimerSociety #DurhamRegionVolunteers
