First Nations, Inuit, and Métis veterans are often honoured with the highest respect by entering gatherings first. Today we acknowledge their service and leadership in both military and community roles on Indigenous Veterans Day. Our digital illustration features the National Aboriginal Veterans Monument in Ottawa, dedicated to Indigenous service members. 🧡 Sculptor Lloyd Pinay, who created the majestic and powerful piece, talked about how it came to be in a recent interview with APTN News. Today, we honour the passing of Elder Murray Sinclair (Mazina Giizhik: The One Who Speaks of Pictures in the Sky), whose leadership in Truth and Reconciliation has profoundly shaped our social impact mission. At Animikii, we're deeply moved by his legacy of using truth to create pathways for healing. Thank you, Murray Sinclair, for showing us that the path to a better tomorrow requires both truth and action. It was a busy week at the World Indigenous Business Forum in Albuquerque, New Mexico for Animikii's CEO Jeff Ward and COO David P.. They connected on site—and off—with many purpose driven-innovators, learning about their visions for Indigenous-led economic empowerment. They were able to visit the Raven Indigenous Capital Partners regional office with Nicole Johnny, MBA and a delegation from New Zealand led by Rachel Petero - Ko Waikato Te Iwi. They also met Naleen Naanee, CJ Moya and Kalika Davis at the New Mexico Community Capital and #IndigiExchange. Of note was a panel discussion with Agnetha Jaime Gloshay, Jaynaya Winmar, Dawn Madahbee Leach, Teresa Tepania-Ashton, MNZM and moderated by Rachel Petero - Ko Waikato Te Iwi, who each shared about the exponential growth of matriarchal leaders across sectors and the important contributions Indigenous women make to the global economy. IWI-Indigenous Women in Industry also announced that Animikii Inc. will be supporting the new Global Matriarch Fund with their digital presence, data and storytelling management by developing their web app! The Global Matriarch Fund champions Indigenous women’s leadership in driving economic prosperity and preserving cultural values. By strategically investing in evidence-based and culturally informed opportunities, the fund seeks to create scalable social and economic impacts that resonate across Indigenous communities globally. Jeff and David are grateful for the connections made and the opportunity to visit the traditional, unceded territory of the Tiwa people. #WIBF2024 #IWI #Matriarchs #IndigenousBusiness #IndigenousTech #DataSovereignty

Indigenous peoples have always been data experts. Data are embedded in our stories, teachings, and languages. Data is in the waters, it's in the land. It's documented orally and physically. This word, "Data," so-called, "Data," is embedded deep in cultures - in all cultures. You can't have culture without technology, and technology without culture. Animikii Inc. CEO and founder Jeff Ward was recently interviewed by the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario for their podcast Info Matters. We encourage you to listen to the full episode - it's a great discussion of how data sovereignty connects to Indigenous sovereignty, and they also explore the impacts of AI from an Indigenous perspective. Here are a few of the core takeaways from the panel Jeff Ward moderated yesterday at Forward Summit. The STEM and the Future of Work" panel featured Tirzah S., First Nations Technology Council, Ryan St. Germaine ♾️, Founder of Indigenous Tech Circle, Mike Wuetherick, Emmy award-winning Producer and Tech Director, and Brandon Ringham, Senior Consultant at Creative Fire. 🌟 Indigenous perspectives in STEM are catalysts for innovation, bringing unique viewpoints on sustainability, time horizons (7 generations thinking), and kinship-based approaches to technology development. 💡 The tech sector narrative needs reframing: it's not just about coding. Indigenous professionals are leading cross-sectoral initiatives where traditional values meet modern solutions, from environmental conservation to ethical AI development. 🤝 Creating meaningful change requires employers to move beyond basic inclusion to actively building safe, culturally responsive tech spaces where Indigenous employees can bring their whole selves to work without sacrificing their values. What's your perspective on building culturally responsive tech spaces? Share your thoughts in the comments below 👇 #TechDiversity #STEM #IndigenousLeadership #TechCareers
