Several exciting initiatives are taking place this week at our end. Cohort # 2 of our SUCCEED-1 Leadership Training Program resumed in Buchanan with over thirty of our enterprising leaders. The SUCCEED 1 Leadership Program is an ArcelorMittal University program designed and delivered in collaboration with Duke Corporate Education. The training is a transformational leadership program that emphasizes the development of self-leadership as a fundamental prerequisite for leading others. It is customized to address the unique needs and objectives of each participant, with a focus on enhancing strategic thinking, decision-making, communication skills, team-building capabilities, etc. Check out some highlights from today's session.

Having already made significant strides in rehabilitating the nation’s mining infrastructure, our railway expansion and rehabilitation project is set to further enhance Liberia’s mining capabilities and pave the way for broader economic development in the region. Ce mardi 15 octobre, nous avons officiellement lancé la construction de notre projet de flottation à notre usine de bouletage de Ville de Port-Cartier, le plus important projet de réduction d’émissions de GES au Québec. 👏 🌿 Ce chantier représente un investissement total de plus de 200 millions de dollars dans la région : environ 100 emplois seront créés durant la construction, avec des pointes jusqu’à 200 emplois à certains moments. On estime que 25 emplois permanents seront créés par la suite pour l’exploitation.   « Cet investissement majeur marque un tournant pour ArcelorMittal et la Côte-Nord, alors qu’il positionne Port-Cartier comme un des plus importants producteurs de boulettes à réduction directe dans le monde. » - Mapi Mobwano, président et chef de la direction.   L’inauguration de ce chantier a été effectuée en présence de Benoit Charette, ministre de l’Environnement, de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques, de la Faune et des Parcs, de Kateri Champagne Jourdain, ministre de l'Emploi et ministre responsable de la région de la Côte-Nord, ainsi que de nombreux dignitaires et employé.e.s de notre complexe industriel de Port-Cartier. Fresh out of university with a civil engineering degree, Edwin Tokpa was one of many Liberians recruited to work with the ArcelorMittal-hired contractor, Odebrecht Construction International to rehabilitate the Yekepa – Buchanan Railway. His hard work and passion to pursue a career in rail operations landed him a full employment with ArcelorMittal Liberia once the rehabilitation of the railway was completed. This journey started from the position of Dispatch Superintendent, Training Operations Manager and Rail Operations Manager, the position he currently occupies. With a focus on developing Liberian talents to lead our business, we’re proud to be supporting Tokpa on this journey, providing the right training and career development opportunities and ensuring that he is equipped with the skills and experience to continue to thrive in a world-class mining operation like ours. Today we share a picture from Ana Fernandez-Iglesias, PhD who is a Director Sustainable Mining Portfolio at ArcelorMittal Mining R&D from #spain. In her words - "I have developed my career in R&D for 15+ years now, always focused on sustainability, environment and circular economy. I feel lucky to work in a company like ArcelorMittal where I have been able to understand the challenges of two massive industries like steel and mining. More or less a decade ago I started working with tailings. And I have travelled around the world understanding how technology can help us make our mining operations more responsible and sustainable. In this pic I am at the top of a tailings dam in Australia. The effect of the lens makes it appear like I am on another planet and sometimes you can feel like that when you are on a tailings storage facility. Now, a large part of my work consists of designing and implementing strategies so that we see tailings from another perspective, seeking to create value from waste,working to make mining a more circular industry."
