Providing knowledge and solutions for a more sustainable future with bamboo

About us

Started in 2019, the Bamboo Applications and Management (BAM) Lab at the University of British Columbia (UBC) is a multidisciplinary research group that studies the interface between people, planet and economics of the boombing bamboo industry. The BAM Lab investigates the role bamboo will play to aid the transition towards an equitable and low-carbon future. With an overall goal of anticipating future low-carbon materials, the Lab brings together researchers from many academic disciplines to work on ground-breaking ideas and innovative real-world applications for bamboo resource management, processing and applications. This research is undertaken in partnership with the private sector, NGOs and other universities; through a collaborative approach, we strive to reveal how bamboo and its derivatives are underway as an alternative to fossil-fuel based solutions.
