Each year, 1.6 billion tree seedlings in North America depend on peat moss, which emits significant GHGs and is less effective in drought-prone and wildfire-damaged areas. B.C. has an abundance of harvest residues left unused due to recovery costs, with fuel expenses being a significant portion of these costs. Because of this, CICE is investing in FPInnovations', in partnership with TYCROP Trailers, West Fraser, and Lhoosk’uz Dene Nation, development and commercialization of a novel hybrid electric configuration combining existing forest sector trucks with a newly developed electrical trailer to solve this problem.
